Year 11 & 12

This term has been filled with success, achievement, and memorable experiences for our Year 11 and 12 students. It has been wonderful to see students actively engaging in a range of academic, sporting, cultural, and career-focused opportunities throughout the term.

The term kicked off with our annual Cross Country event, where the majority of our Year 11 and 12 students participated with enthusiasm and determination. Students challenged themselves by completing either the 3km or 5km course, recording some incredibly impressive times that certainly put many of the staff members to shame! Their resilience, commitment, and positive attitude were fantastic to witness and set the tone for a successful term ahead.

We are also incredibly proud of one of our Year 11 students who progressed through to the State level of competition while representing our school. This outstanding achievement is a testament to her dedication, perseverance, and talent. She has become a role model for her peers, and we look forward to celebrating her future successes.

Careers education and pathway planning remained a major focus throughout the term, with students participating in a range of valuable opportunities to help them prepare for life beyond school.

Early in the term, our Year 12 VCE students attended the Careers Expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This valuable experience allowed students to explore a wide range of post-school pathways and gain a deeper understanding of future career opportunities. Students had access to information from universities, TAFEs, GAP year providers, employers, and training organisations. They also attended seminars and connected with youth support programs and services, helping them make informed decisions about their future studies, careers, and personal development.

Another highlight was our on-site Careers Fair, organised by our Careers Team. The event provided students with the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals from a diverse range of career backgrounds. Representatives from organisations including the Australian Defence Force (ADF), Victoria Police, the aviation industry, Headspace, and many other sectors visited our school to share valuable insights into their professions and career pathways.

Students were able to ask questions, learn about the skills and qualifications required for different industries, and gain a better understanding of the opportunities available to them after school. The enthusiasm and engagement shown by our students throughout both careers events was fantastic to see. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all the providers who generously gave their time to support our students and share their expertise.

In addition to coordinating these large-scale events, our Careers Team has undertaken the significant task of meeting individually with all Year 10, 11, and 12 students to discuss and review their Career Action Plans. This has been a substantial commitment requiring many hours of planning, preparation, and consultation. These one-on-one meetings have provided students with valuable opportunities to reflect on their strengths, interests, future aspirations, and pathway options. We are pleased to report that almost all meetings have now taken place, which is a remarkable achievement. We sincerely thank our Careers Team for their dedication, professionalism, and ongoing commitment to supporting students as they make informed decisions about their future education, training, and career pathways.

Harmony Day was another significant highlight for our senior students. Many students proudly represented their cultural backgrounds by wearing traditional clothing and sharing aspects of their heritage with the school community. The vibrant colours, traditional dress, and strong sense of pride created a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere throughout the day. It was inspiring to see students celebrating diversity and embracing the many cultures that make up our school community. The positive energy and school spirit displayed on Harmony Day continued throughout the week and reflected the strong sense of belonging within our senior school.

Another major component of the term was the Year 11 and 12 Structured Workplace Learning (SWL). Over two weeks, students gained valuable real-world experience across a variety of industries and workplaces. It was fantastic to see so many students stepping into professional environments and developing important workplace skills. Students explored pathways including VET assistance, educational support, early childhood education, pharmacy, barbering, carpentry, landscaping, and many other fields. We are confident that many of these students have bright futures ahead in their chosen industries.

Equally pleasing was the positive feedback we received from employers. Many workplaces commended our students for their professionalism, work ethic, communication skills, and willingness to learn. It was wonderful to hear such positive reports and know that our students represented themselves and the school with pride and maturity.

During this busy period, our Year 11 and 12 VCE students were also preparing for their on-site Mid-Year Examinations. Students dedicated significant time and effort to their revision and preparation, demonstrating strong commitment to their academic goals. We are extremely proud of the perseverance and determination shown throughout the examination period and congratulate students on their efforts.

Not long after the mid-year exams, our Year 12 students, along with a select group of Year 11 students, completed the General Achievement Test (GAT). This important assessment required students to complete a three-hour examination focusing on literacy and numeracy skills, followed by an additional 1.5-hour assessment. The GAT demands concentration, resilience, and endurance, and our students approached the challenge with maturity and professionalism.

While this term has been filled with many successes and memorable experiences for our students, we would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make these opportunities possible. From our Careers Team and administrative staff to our fellow leaders, teachers, education support staff, and the many others who contributed throughout the term, your dedication and hard work have been greatly appreciated. This term's success would not have been possible without your collective efforts, and we sincerely thank you for the positive impact you continue to have on our students and school community.

Overall, Term 2 has been an incredibly successful and rewarding term for our senior school students. From sporting achievements and cultural celebrations to career exploration, work experience, and academic success, our students have consistently demonstrated determination, resilience, and school pride. We congratulate all students on their efforts and look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the second half of the year.

Message from Edele MacDonald (Year 12 Leader)- I would like to let our Year 12 families know that I have accepted a new leadership role at another school and will be finishing at Cranbourne East Secondary College at the end of Week 1, Term 3.

While I am excited for this new opportunity, it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to a school community that has meant so much to me over the past six years.

It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside our students, families and dedicated staff. Supporting young people through their senior years, celebrating their successes and helping them navigate challenges has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

Year 12 Business Management

Year 12 VCE Business Management students took part in an engaging excursion to Melbourne City Football Club at Casey Fields, delivered in partnership with Federation University. The experience gave students a valuable, real-world insight into how an elite sporting organisation operates as part of a global business network.

Across the morning, students explored key business areas including operations, human resources, leadership, and marketing. Through a mix of interactive presentations, practical activities, and an on-field session, they were able to see how concepts from Unit 3 are applied in a real world setting.  A highlight was examining Melbourne City FC’s connection to both the curriculum and the broader community, helping students understand how global strategy is implemented at a local level.

It was great to see students actively involved throughout the program, making strong connections between their classroom learning and the realities of business in elite sport.
