NETBALL CHAMPS!
Secondary Netball CSEN Championships
By Andrew Lockrey - Head of HOPE (Health, Outdoor Ed, PE)
On Monday 19th August, six different netball teams, from Years 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12 all travelled halfway across Melbourne to the State Netball and Hockey centre in Parkville for a tournament against other CSEN school teams. These teams had been training for many weeks beforehand, giving up whole lunchtimes to gel and learn the game of Netball.
Upon entering the venue we were greeted with giant posters of Australian Netball stars and Melbourne Vixens colours everywhere. The atmosphere of the place was palpable.
All teams had the chance to play each school at least once and some were fortunate enough to make the finals. At the end of the day a number of teams came away with medals, all teams should be really proud of their efforts, many playing netball with very little prior experience doing so.
The Year 7/8 Girls won a bronze medal, both the Year 11/12 Boys and Girls teams came away with a silver medal and the Year 9/10 Girls won themselves a gold medal.
Well done to everyone, and a special thanks to all the staff who volunteered their time to coach each team, it wouldn’t have happened without your help!
BHCS Primary Netball Stars

On Tuesday 20th August our Year 5/6 Primary Boys and Girls Netball Teams travelled out to Melbourne Sports Centre in Parkville to compete in the CSEN Netball Championships.
Both teams had been training hard at school in the weeks leading up to the event with our expert staff coaches Olivia Jerram and Mrs Annie Scott. We were also lucky enough to have Chelsea B and Jess M from Year 10 helping us both in training and on the day.
Melbourne Sports Centre is a beautiful facility and we were joined by a number of other Christian Schools from around Melbourne and even Geelong to battle it out for the title.
Our Boys team competed hard in matches with some exciting pieces of play. Many of whom are good young sportsmen who embraced the opportunity to learn a new sport. Our Girls made up of a mixture of talented young ladies, some with lots of netball experience and some new to the game who showed some really transferable skills from other sports. They all worked well together, winning all their pool matches and making it through to the Grand Final!
The Grand Final was an extremely close game against Flinders Christian Community College, with our girls surviving in a thrilling ending 9 - 7.
