Captains' Corner

Tiani Tyler and Meghan Guthrie-Quinn, 2025 College Captains

On Friday 4 October, in conjunction with the Crazy Sock and Hair Day, Meghan Guthrie-Quinn and Tia Tyler (Year 11 students) ran the Clayfield Big Chop! The Kids' Cancer Project’s Lose Your Locks Campaign encourages people to sponsor others to cut a minimum of 20cm of their hair to be turned into wigs for cancer patients. By taking part in the Big Chop or sponsoring others, the Clayfield College community helped to raise over $5000 for the charity. All money raised went directly to the Kids' Cancer Project, helping researchers develop kids' cancer treatments, give kids their childhoods back, or allow their confidence to be restored with a life-changing wig.

The Big Chop was a much-anticipated event on this year’s calendar, with a great deal of excitement throughout the College. The senior students came out of their timetabled flexi-time to come and show their support, along with Primary students in Years 4 to 6, who were also invited to watch. The atmosphere in the Assembly Hall was exhilarating and very encouraging for the brave choppers. There were 32 participants on the day, including 26 students and six staff and community members, and a surprise appearance from Mr Travis McIntosh, who braved the chop and cut his ponytail as well. As aforementioned, over $5000 was raised for this incredible cause through the morning tea bake sale and much-appreciated donations. All in all, this day was a huge success and would not have been possible without the amazing organisational skills of Ms Tina Mills.
