A Cultural and Cinematic Adventure

Chinatown Excursion

On August 20th, 31 enthusiastic students from Reservoir High School embarked on a memorable excursion to Melbourne’s vibrant Chinatown. Accompanied by their dedicated Chinese teachers, Ms. Annie and Ms. Sabrina, along with their language assistant Gavin, the students set out on a journey not only to explore the rich cultural heritage of Chinatown but also to immerse themselves in a unique cinematic experience. The highlight of the day was the screening of the Chinese film "Successor," a thought-provoking drama that delves into the complex dynamics of family, tradition, and legacy in contemporary China.

The film offered the students a deep insight into Chinese societal values and the challenges faced by younger generations in balancing modern aspirations with traditional expectations. Ms. Annie and Ms. Sabrina were thrilled to see their students actively participating in the cultural activities, asking insightful questions, and showing a genuine interest in the history and traditions they encountered. Gavin, the language assistant, played a pivotal role in facilitating conversations and helping the students navigate through language barriers. The excursion to Chinatown was not only an educational experience but also an opportunity for the students to connect with the cultural aspects of the language they are learning. The day ended with lively discussions among the students about the film and the insights they gained, making it a truly enriching experience for all involved.
