Graduation
Last Friday saw our Year 12 students have their last day at school before exams and the night before was their graduation at our local hall. Once again Paris put together an amazing evening to help students celebrate their achievements of completing the school component of their education. Thank you to Alan McIntyre who came along as the guest speaker and spoke about his career with the students.
Student Leadership
In 2024 Lolah Joubert accepted to be our school nominee for the Rural Youth Ambassadors Program. She graduated from the Melbourne based program last week, that works around developing youth leadership skills and give our rural youth a voice. Well done Lolah!
Operation Flinders
A big thank you to Darren Ferluga who once again organised Operation Flinders, an opportunity for students at Edenhope College. Students are generally chosen from years 9 and 10 to partake in a 10 day camp in the Flinders Ranges 1000 kilometres away from Edenhope. The camp is open to anyone in those year levels and we can take up to 8 students away. Students that went hiked 94 kilometres over the 8 days that they were out in the Flinders Ranges. Sleeping was all out under the stars on a small bed roll. Sheree Cooper and myself were the Edenhope College staff that went and we saw the growth in the students that attended. It was a hard camp in regards to sleeping conditions as for some reason at night it was extremely windy and quite cold. The days were beautiful and the scenery amazing, which helped make up for the nights. Although the students found the conditions pretty tough, it really helped build their resilience and they all said how much they enjoyed the experience. A couple of the students said they wouldn't be hiking again in the Flinders Ranges, but were so glad for the experience. It really was amazing to see the students persevere, enjoy the scenery and to see the personal growth that they achieved while on the trip.
Early in November representatives from Operation Flinders will come and meet with the students for a day to celebrate their achievements and do presentations.
Reporting Update
Interim Reports will come out at the end of next week (Week 4). As stated in our previous newsletter, we are looking to change the reporting system to be more informative and progressive. Part of that change will involve the end of semester report showing student progression but with a lot less comments. Conversations will be had during the students journey where feedback is more relevant.
Future Funding Project
Nearly all planning has been completed for our future funding project. Soon contracts will be put out to tender and once that's done it's just a waiting game. The Victorian government withheld our 13.1 million dollar grant over this financial year, due to state financial difficulties. They said we would have to look to the May budget next year so fingers crossed as the planning for refurbishment of our school looks amazing. We will be pushing hard to make sure we get it for the students!
