Making a ‘Splash’ at John Cain Arena
On Saturday, September 14, our Year 5 & 6 mass dance students shared their energy, dynamic moves, joy and kindness with two large arena audiences at performances for this year’s Victorian State Schools Spectacular, “Splash!”. In addition to their wonderful dance skills, the students always showed respect and resilience, participating in two long, demanding days of arena dress rehearsals before braving twelve hours of cold weather on the performance day – all without complaint.
The students were proud and delighted to watch from their positions on the arena floor, Year 5 student Zack Poole, and past students Izayah Khazour and Cameron Poole perform as principal vocalists on the main stage. To have the opportunity to work with international choreographers as well as learning from one of the best composers and conductors in the music industry, Chong Lim, was an incredible experience for our students. The students often showed their gratitude by calling out to the Spec organisers to thank them or to invite them into our group photos!
Thanks to the many WPS families who came along to watch and support our students, to the parents who assisted with driving students to the arena and regional rehearsals, and to Gen Stephens, Dave Pelosi and Elisha McPhedran who assisted at the arena with student supervision.
If you missed out on a ticket to one of the arena shows, make sure you tune in to Channel 7 on Saturday, December 14 when highlights from “Splash” with be broadcast!
