RUOK? Day: Staff vs Students Netball Match

On 29 August, the Girton Community Action Group facilitated a netball game between the Year 12 students and Girton staff. This is a long-held annual tradition to promote RUOK? Day, which encourages Australians to connect with people in their community and ask the question: "RUOK?". It is a day to connect with others, show support and listen without judgement. Although we have a special day to remind us to check in on the people in our lives, every day should be RUOK? Day, so don't forget to check in, listen up and be present!

The Staff vs Students Netball Match was fiercely contested, with both teams hungry for the win and the Year 12s seeking to avenge last year's loss. Despite the strong competition between the two teams, the staff were victorious, with a two-point win in the final quarter ending the match 31 to 29.

Both teams competed valiantly, with the students leading by a good margin in the first half of the game, but after some tense moments and lots of back and forth, the staff surged ahead just as the buzzer sounded.

Congratulations to the staff teams and well done Year 12s – may 2026 will be the year! A huge thank you to our umpires on the day, Aaliyah Greenwell (9 Frew) and Stephanie Carlson (9 Frew).

Thank you to everyone who came and cheered on the teams (especially the cheer squad from 65 Wattle!) and purchased items at the BBQ. More than $400 dollars was raised on the day and this will be donated to Headspace Bendigo to support their excellent work in Youth Mental Health Services in our region.

DaVinci Day

On Wednesday 14 August, as a part of Girton's Science Week celebrations, students undertook a range of activities during Co-Connect time to celebrate 'DaVinci Day'. Students were challenged with activities such as building the strongest bridge and the tallest marshmallow tower, marble runs and creating a parachute that would protect an egg from breaking when it landed. Blending aspects of physics, engineering and science inquiry skills with creative expression, students were able to work in teams to come up with some fantastic displays.

House Singing 2024

The Girton Grammar Senior School House Singing Competition was held on Wednesday 28 August, with Millward House's performance of 'Revolting Children' from Matilda the Musical taking home the Performance Cup for 2024. Congratulations to all House Captains and students on some outstanding performances!
