Appreciation Week for our Student Support Officers

This week we have celebrated Support Staff Appreciation Week. We have an amazing team of Student Support Officers across both the Junior and Senior School. Our support team are passionate about inclusion and supporting students socially, emotionally and academically, and we are very grateful to them for the work they do throughout the school.

Father/Special Person Morning

Last Friday the Year 1 students invited their dads for morning tea. First we did a booklet together. There were word searches and colouring-ins. There were also fun questions. My Dad put on the tie I made him. Next we did an exciting orienteering course. We had to go to the Year 5 area and the Library. We also went to the peppercorn tree. We had to skip and throw frisbees. Finally we went to Greenland for morning tea. Then we had to say goodbye. I gave my Dad a big hug. My favourite part was the morning tea.

Last Friday the Year 1 students invited their dads to school. 1D and 1M had planned some fun activities. First we did a fun booklet about our dads. Next we did an exciting orienteering course. We had to count down ball courts, kick goals, sing the alphabet and go down the slide. Then we had a delicious morning tea. I brought doughnuts. Finally it was time for our dads to go home. My Dad loved it.

Last Friday the Year 1 students invited their dads to school. My Dad came. He was very happy. First we did a booklet together. Then we did the orienteering course. In the orienteering course we had to read a book in the Library. We also had to go to the peppercorn tree to do some activities. Also, we had to go to the back playground. After that we went to Greenland for our morning tea.  Finally we had a cuddle with our dads and said goodbye! My sister, called Maeve, came too. My favourite part was when I gave Dad my tie I made for him.

Finally the dads and special people went home. My favourite part was when I gave my Dad his tie.

Year 5M Colour Poems

The students of 5M learnt that poetry is a type of creative writing that aims to engage the imagination and produce different emotions in the reader. Using the five senses, the students recorded their personal responses to the sights, sounds, textures, smells and tastes associated with their chosen colour. These words and phrases were built up into a poem that expresses their personal responses.

Donuts

Donuts look delightful and colourful

Like a rainbow.

I smell the scent of lollies and amazing smelling flavours.

I taste a delicious donut with all the flavours you could want.

I hear you calling me to eat you.

I hear the sound of your sprinkles falling.

You feel soft and squishy.

Charlotte Diss (5 Frew)

Honey

Honey so shiny, almost golden in the light,

Clear, glossy and glassy, sticky, gooey, smooth and silky – so sweet, so yummy.

Oh how much I love you! You make my heart burst with joy.

You give me a sensation of warmth within my heart.

The aroma is so delicious. I could smell it from a mile away.

It is yummy and sugary,

It can make anything bland taste sweet.

You feel gooey and silky at the same time and as I drizzle you over my food I can hear you go drip, drop, glop, gloop.

You are my honey, as sweet as can be.

You are my sweet treat – a bundle of yellow and gold stickiness.

Chloe Jesser (5 Millward)

My Kittens

My kittens are cute and fluffy,

They are soft and delicate,

My kittens smell like kitty litter

And they meow, purr and scratch

to get my attention as they run to the door.

My kittens play, sleep and lie in the sun.

I love my kittens – they keep me happy when I

am down.

Ruby O’Rielly (5 Jones)

Netball

BANG is all I hear as you shoot through the hoop.

You come in so many colours,

purple, white, blue, green and so many more.

Your rubbery spherical shape

so ridged and rough yet so light, full of air.

You smell like when you open a fresh new book.

I imagine you would taste like salt and vinegar chips but very chewy.

Georgina Brown (5 Aherne)

Play Dough

I play with you, I notice you are colourful, creative and made for ideas.

You smell like pizza dough before it goes in the oven and as I take a little nibble I realise you taste sweet and salty.

It gets very loud as I clap you into shape.

As I play with you it also feels like clay being made into a pot.

Alice Shanley (5 Millward)

Books

Pretty rows stacked side by side

Stacked upon each other in beautiful rows

Light and dull colours fill my dark pupils.

As I flick through your pages I hear a satisfying sound

when your pages collide with one another.

Wind released by the flick of your pages.

I hear the words escaping your page as I read.

Your lovely cover smells like fresh leather freshened out in sweet rain.

You smell bitter as I read your wonderful words.

A lone smell fills my nostril but I'm too interested in your words to notice.

Your taste, a papery sensation combines with my saliva.

Processed wood wets in my mouth.

Paper ripping to my saliva.

Your pages feel so smooth in my fingertips.

Your hard book cover vibrates as I knock on your front.

I feel the wind hit my face as I turn your delicate pages.

How do those words entertain me so much just by looking at them?

Abe Chapman (5 Riley)

Rubix Cubes

Red, green, yellow, blue, so many different colours,

It’s like a rainbow magic cube.

Shing! Shing! Shing! God it moves fast.

I know how quick you are,

I know you have hard paint

Because l’ve tasted you before.

You smell so sweet when I get another one of you.

Ready! Go!

And off you go.

Ryan Guo (5 Riley)

Strawberry Jam

You are red, gooey, melty berries,

You smell like sugar-flavoured strawberries,

So please taste like energy, crunchy craziness,

And SMASH! you go, when you fall,

But smooth when you spread,

Slimy and sticky, hard and seedy is how you feel.

Heath Beck (5 Jones)

Surfing

As I put on my tight wetsuit I can see the clear ocean water and the majestic waves crashing on the dry, bumpy sand with the beautiful seashells of all shapes and sizes.

I approach the ocean and can smell the salty water with some stinky fish swimming around. I place my surfboard down and grab the hardwax and wax the board.

As I start to get into the water I instantly feel the warm (sometimes cold) water. I hop onto my firm, waxed surfboard and start to paddle out. I feel you, smooth, clear water.

I can hear the waves rising like a calm monster breathing in. Then, the waves CRASH against the sand like the monster is breathing out.

I hear the elegant seashells clank against each other. When I fall off the board I taste you and you’re salty with a touch of crunchy sand.

You, surfing, are such an amazing thing to me – thank you for bringing joy to me.

Eloise Jesson (5 Jenkin)

Trees

I can see the leaves rustling together,

The life that has been grown.

It smells like fresh perfume.

I can just feel life and the smell and time over its development.

It tastes like dust and dirt but solid like paint scraping across metal poles in my mind, fuzzing.

The sound of the paper made from trees – it's like paper being free, like sliding wood softly against the surface. When I put my hand and scrape over it I get the great gift called splinters – a lot of them.

Flynn McKay (5 Millward)

Wind chimes

Ding-aling-ding-aling

As you glisten in the wind,

Smooth you are,

As I come to touch you, you make more lullabies,

When I come to you I feel safe and calm,

If I were to taste you, I’d imagine you as a sweet lolly, tingling on my tongue.

I wish to always hear you,

In my mind…

I see you,

When I'm angry, happy and even sad,

I will forever think of you!
