Sports Excellence Update

In Issue 11 of the Girton eLink, we introduced a cutting-edge tool called Lumin Sports, which is an Athlete Management Software (AMS). Lumin is a data visualisation platform that helps coaches interpret complex performance data. This innovative technology is used by elite organisations – including the Australian Olympic Team, as well as several AFL, NRL and netball clubs – to manage and enhance athlete performance. We’re excited to share that over the past month, we’ve successfully integrated Lumin into our program and were even featured on Lumin’s Instagram account, showcasing our use of this advanced system.

Our athletes now complete a quick, two-minute daily wellbeing survey, which provides valuable insight into their physical and mental state. If a student's responses fall outside their five-day moving average, an automatic email is sent to their teacher, allowing us to receive instant feedback and adapt our approach. For example, if an athlete self-reports lower-than-usual scores, their status is flagged as 'red'. This allows me to have discreet conversations with students, identify any issues and adjust their training accordingly. Without this tool, we may have pushed them too hard on days when extra care was needed.

We are also in the process of incorporating our strength and jump testing data into Lumin, which will allow athletes to compare their performance not only with their peers but also with others across the country who compete in the same sport.

Parents can access their child’s data via Lumin, providing them with a detailed view of their progress. This information can also be shared with external coaches to ensure everyone is aligned on the athlete’s goals. With finals season upon us, it's crucial to strike the right balance between pushing for those final 1% improvements and avoiding overtraining.

If you would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to email me. I’m happy to discuss the program further.
