In Writing we are revisiting single paragraph outlines (SPOs). Students are focusing on using these outlines to craft strong topic sentences and supporting details, resulting in well-organised paragraphs. This is an important skill we aim for students to master independently. The Year 4’s have been putting in great effort to understand this structure while using information from our 'Impact of Settlement' knowledge unit.
We are excited to announce our new knowledge unit: The Impact of Settlement! In this unit, we've been diving into the fascinating history of how the first peoples lived and exploring various archaeological sites. Our unit also includes learning about Captain James Cook's explorations and the arrival of the First Fleet, which marked significant moments in our history. We look forward to continuing this journey to understand more about the impact of settlement.
In Numeracy, we have been finishing up our multiplication unit by extending our learning to multiples and factors of 2, 5, 8, 10 and 12. Students have been using their knowledge to identify the highest common factor using factor trees, as well as the lowest common multiple. We are now moving on to fractions and have begun to identify equivalent fractions in relation to halves, quarters and eights and are adding fractions together using the ‘bar model’ to organise our thinking.
We’re excited to introduce a new program called School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), which we will officially implement in Term 4. For the remainder of this term, we are using our SEL lessons to explore what SWPBS will look like at Gilgai. So far, we’ve learned that SWPBS helps us all follow the rules and uphold our school values. When we do this, everyone feels safe and happy, which makes it easier for us to learn and have fun! We can’t wait to start using SWPBS and to make our school an even better place for everyone!
Here are the signs we have been learning in our Auslan sessions.
