In Literacy we have embarked on an enlightening journey through the pages of Can You See Me? by Libby Scott as our novel study unit. This compelling book offers a unique perspective on life with autism through the eyes of the protagonist, Tally. As we dive into Tally’s world, we are exploring themes of acceptance, resilience, and the power of self-expression. The novel not only enhances our literary skills but also fosters empathy and understanding towards diverse experiences. Through engaging discussions we are developing a deeper appreciation for different perspectives, making this study unit both an educational and transformative experience.
In our engaging "Paragraph of the Week" activity, we are putting our writing skills to the test by applying key concepts learnt throughout the term. Each week, we craft a paragraph, focusing on elements such as structure, vocabulary, and coherence. This exercise is not just about writing; it's also an opportunity for us to give and receive constructive feedback from both our teacher and peers. By reflecting on this feedback and revising our work, we are enhancing our writing abilities and gaining valuable insights into the revision process. This collaborative approach not only improves our individual writing but also fosters a supportive learning environment where everyone benefits from shared expertise and perspectives.
In our recent maths unit, we have been diving into the fascinating world of fractions. We've thoroughly reviewed key concepts, starting with adding and subtracting fractions, which has helped solidify our understanding of combining and separating parts of a whole. We've also focused on converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions, a crucial skill for simplifying and manipulating fractions effectively. Additionally, we have practised comparing fractions using greater than and less than symbols, enhancing our ability to evaluate and order fractions accurately. To wrap up, we've tackled simplifying fractions, which has reinforced our understanding of reducing fractions to their simplest form. Through these activities, we are building a strong foundation in fraction concepts, preparing us for more advanced mathematical challenges ahead.
In our AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) lessons, we have been exploring the foundational element of handshapes. Understanding and mastering these handshapes is crucial for effective communication in AUSLAN, as they form the basis of many signs and expressions. By practising various handshapes, we are learning to convey different meanings and improve our signing fluency.
In our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions, we have been exploring the powerful concept of gratitude. This term, our focus has been on recognizing and appreciating the people who make a positive impact in our lives. Through reflective activities and group discussions, we have been encouraged to identify and articulate why we are grateful for certain individuals, whether it be family members, friends, or teachers. This practice of acknowledging the contributions of others not only fosters a sense of appreciation but also strengthens our social connections and emotional well being. By understanding and expressing gratitude, we are learning to build positive relationships and cultivate a more mindful and appreciative perspective.
