STEM
Last week in STEM, Preps explored the four seasons.
Grade 1/2s looked at the effect of seasons on landscapes.
Grade 3/4s used a tub, water and sand to replicate the effect of coastal erosion.
Grade 5/6s looked at earthquakes and plate tectonics.
This week, Preps explored the effect of the seasons on plants and animals, learning about the key terms, hibernation and migration.
Grade 1/2s continued to look at landscapes. They went for a walk around the school to identify natural, managed and constructed features of landscapes.
Grade 3/4s made stop motion animations to show their understanding of coastal erosion. A sample of some that students made have been put on the school’s Facebook page, so be sure to check them out!
Grade 5/6s used the Bureau of Meteorology website to explore rainfall data and then created mind maps using the iPad app, Popplet.
Week 8 STEM certificates go to: Caila Murphy and Olivia Baulch.
Week 9 STEM certificates go to: Sylvie Thomas and Harvey Bennett.

In The Artroom
This week we continued our artist study of Edvard Munch. We had deep discussions based on his two artworks “Separation” and “the Scream”. Students communicated their ideas and critiques about the artworks and shared ideas on the meaning of the artworks with the artist’s use of colour, tone, line and expressionism.
They completed their pictures from last week then worked on their art theory worksheets in their art books.
Art club is on a Wednesday, at middle bell. Next week will be gr 3/4.
Gr 4s continued art extension workshops this week with Ms Brown, painting MDF penguins for display in the library.
Gr 3 art extension completed their workshops this week with a spray painting activity. They created a large painting of ‘space’ – with planets and the Milky Way. We have been waiting a couple of weeks to be able to do this workshop due to the wet and windy weather but the gr 3s absolutely loved it.
Artist of the week awards go to:
- Tom Robertson
- Olive Brown
- Connor Crawford
- River Blacklidge
Well done to everyone on an excellent week of Art!
