Bogong Outdoor Education Camp

Our wonderful 18 Year 9 leaders stepped out of their comfort zone and stepped into the outdoor world of Bogong, Outdoor Education school. Bogong is situated up in the Victorian high plains and offers speculator recreational activities and cheeky wildlife. Our Year 9 students participated in outdoor rock climbing, mountain bike riding along the Falls Creek trails, canoeing and other great activities.

"The highlight of the Bogong camp was definitely going camping overnight on the high plains. I loved cooking, walking and going rock climbing while we were up there and it was very enjoyable." ~ Gabe

"During my time at Bogong, I had so much fun. A highlight for me was when we went bridge building, we were challenged and worked really well as a team to build a successful bridge." ~ Taylor W.

"My highlight of the camp was when we had to camp in the middle of nowhere, in tents and it poured the whole night. It was 0 degrees, and woke up to frosted tents. We then hiked up a mountain the following day. This experience really connected me with nature and would definitely recommend this camp."

Sports and Surf Academy Gold Coast Camp

Our Surf and Sports Academy students headed to the Gold Coast for their annual camp recently.

The students stayed at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre and were lucky enough to participate in the following activities:

  • Training sessions such as trampoline, mobility, underwater breath hold, running, athlete development, beach yoga, skate, beach rugby and surfing.
  • Visits to High Performance Centres such as Surfing Australia, BMX Freestyle National Performance Centre and the Gold Coast Suns.
  • Educational Workshops in Performance Nutrition and High Performance Mindset.

As well as opening the students eyes up to wide world of sports opportunities and facilities available in Australia, travelling intestate was a great way to encourage the students personal growth, aligning with the Sports Academy motto of ‘life skills through sport."

Year 12 VET Sport & Recreation Headstart

Last week, SCSC Year 11 students were participating in their Headstart week.  Headstart is a program that assists with their transition into Year 12 for 2024, and aims to allow students to get to know their subjects, teachers and classmates before the new year.

The future Year 12 Vet Sport and Recreation class participated in a team building challenge. Congratulations to AK, Steve, Caysea and Xav for being the champion builders!

Wonderful teamwork and problem solving displayed by all students. Well done everyone on a great start to Year 12 Vet Sport and Rec, what an exciting year ahead!

Environmental Group (Surf 'n' Earth)

As we near the end of the school year, the SCSC Environment Group (Surf ‘n’ Earth) would like to remind students and staff to keep the environment in their minds as they clean up and prepare for 2024.

When cleaning out your lockers and school spaces at the end of the year please consider:

  • Can you reuse any of your books and stationery?
  • Can you recycle any parts of used workbooks?
  • Could you donate any of your unwanted clear workbooks or stationery?

Your small actions could save items going into landfill, or benefit others.

In exciting news, on Saturday (Nov 25) the School for Student Leadership Year 9 students organised a beach clean up activity at Fisherman’s Beach, Torquay.  It ran from 12 noon until 3pm.

Students might also have noticed some new bins around the SCSC grounds: Voc Major students have placed bins around the school to collect containers for the new Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. Cans and plastic bottles from the canteen can be placed in these and should NOT BE crushed in any way.

Thank you for your support!
