Victorian State Schools Spectacular 2024

Expression of interest to participate in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular 2024 (Current Year 4 & 5’s only)

I am so excited to announce that Hillsmeade PS have once again been chosen to participate in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular, in the mass dance group.

The performance will take place at the John Cain Arena on Saturday 14th September 2024.

What is the Victorian State Schools Spectacular?

As one of the largest recurring productions in Australia, the Victorian State Schools Spectacular brings together over 3000 school students performing as a 64 piece orchestra, 1300 choir, 1200 mass dancers, lead vocalists, principal dancers, ensemble dancers, backing vocalists, roller skaters, magicians, speciality acts, puppeteers and much more.

The Spectacular showcases and unites government school communities through working towards a common goal of more students reaching the highest level of achievement in the arts, ensuring kids are happy, healthy and resilient, and building pride in our schools.

How can I take part in the Spectacular?

Firstly, let Mrs Scott know that you are interested by writing an expression of interest.  This should include reasons why you would like to participate, details of any dance experience that you have and must show an understanding of your commitment to the project. This EOI must be submitted to the school office or directly to Mrs Scott (lisa.scott2@education.vic.gov.au)  by Friday 15th December.  In week 1 next year, you will be invited to attend a lunchtime audition. There is no need to prepare anything for the audition as you will learn a dance item as a whole group.

How many students can participate?

16 students.

How many times do I have to rehearse?

Students will be expected to attend at least one lunchtime rehearsal in terms 1 & 2, rising to two lunchtimes in term 3.

They will also be expected to attend four regional rehearsals at a local school.

How much will the Spectacular cost?

All of the costumes for this event are provided free of charge and are made to measure for each student.  However, it is compulsory for students to purchase a Spectacular t-shirt (approx. $28).  There may also be a fee for transportation to and from the rehearsals.

Lastly…

Participating in the Spectacular requires an enormous amount of commitment and dedication, both inside and outside of school, but I can guarantee that it is an unforgettable experience.  The arena performance is recorded by Channel 7 and shown on the television in December.

If you would like to see the broadcast of this year’s Spectacular, then tune into channel 7 on Saturday 9th December. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
