Education in Faith

Education in Faith encompasses the following areas: Religious Education, Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments.

The Season of Advent

The season of Advent has begun.  As a Catholic faith community, last Sunday we celebrated the beginning of Advent.  Advent is a time of waiting, a time to prepare and to reflect on the importance of the birth of Jesus within our lives.  Advent is a special time in the church year when we prepare and get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

This week as a Catholic school community, we celebrate the 1st week of Advent. The first candle, which is purple, represents HOPE.  It is called the “Prophecy Candle” in remembrance of the prophets. It represents the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

In the coming weeks, our learners will have the opportunity to unpack, explore, reflect and make connections to how relevant these scripture stories are in our world today. As a whole school scripture focus, our learners will be unpacking, reflecting and engaging in the following scriptures.

Week 1: Mark 13:33-37   HOPE

Week 2: Mark 1:1-18        PEACE

Week 3: John 1:6-8            JOY

Week 4: Luke 1:26-38       LOVE

As a Catholic learning community, our learners will have the opportunity to reflect and unpack the scripture story of Mark’s gospel.  We invite you to spend time with your family discussing and reflecting on Mark’s gospel.

Marks gospel 13:33-37.

Stay awake! You never know when the Lord will come.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time will come.  It is like a man travelling aboard: he has gone from home, and left his servants in charge, each with his own task; and he has told the doorkeeper to say awake.  So stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming, evening, midnight, cockcrow, dawn; if he comes unexpectedly, he must not find you asleep.  And what I say to you I say to all: “Stay awake!’
