What's Been Happening in Year 6

Stepping into the Spotlight:

Year 6’s Big Year Ahead!

The Year 6 students are starting the new school year with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility, excited to take on their roles as the leaders of the school. They’re eager to set a positive example for the younger students and have already begun diving into their captain roles, leading various groups with dedication and energy.

The Year 6 students are also getting active in preparation for the upcoming Sports Gala Day in Week 10. They are participating in summer sports training, sharpening their skills, and gearing up to showcase their talents on the big day.

One of the most exciting moments this term is when Year 6 will meet their new Prep buddies. The Year 6s are excited to be role models for the younger students and are preparing for a special Prep Buddy Picnic on March 19th, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. This event will be a fantastic opportunity for the Year 6s to bond with their new buddy families and guide them through their first experiences at school.

With so many activities already underway, it's clear that this year will be full of memorable moments and growth for the Year 6 students as they embrace their leadership journey, build new friendships, and take part in some exciting events. It's shaping up to be an incredible year!

This week 6C and 6D had a visitor from the Reptile Club. Ms Ale came in with the Reptile club to talk about Our Lady’s frog.

Sienna: Our Lady’s Green tree frogs, actually. The reptile club is introducing the animals to classes around the school. This is so the students can learn to be respectful around the animals.

Manuela: The green tree frogs are found in Queensland, Australia. We have 2 frogs named frog 1 and frog 2. We can’t tell them apart yet. In order to take care of the frogs, we need to feed them 10 crickets once a week and make sure their water is full.

Lucy: I was chosen to hold the container with the frog and those frogs are very small. You need to be really careful with them so they don’t get scared. We don’t know if they are boys or girls yet.

Leon: I learnt that they eat crickets and mealworms. Yuck! They are really sensitive so you can’t move them around too much because they will get scared. I want to hold the blue tongue lizard next.

Samuel: I really enjoyed looking into the tree frogs eyes, we had a staring contest. I won. I’m jealous of the tree frogs because they get to sleep for half of the day. I really want to meet Monty the big snake.

What's Been Happening in Year 3

This term, Year 3 students are diving into the world of healthy eating as part of their Inquiry unit. They have been looking at their own eating habits and comparing them to the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.

In class, students are learning about the five food groups: vegetables, fruits, grains, protein foods, and dairy, and why each one is important for their health. As part of their activities, they have been creating their own Healthy Eating Plate, where they choose foods that fit into each group to make a balanced meal. This allows students to gain a better understanding of how to make healthier food choices that fuel their bodies and help them feel their best. Students will continue to explore more ways to improve their eating habits and make choices that support their growth, energy, and wellbeing.
