What is the Parents’ Club at NLPS?

The Newport Lakes Parents’ Club is a parent run committee that aims to bring the NLPS community together to enrich our children’s school experience while having some fun. It is maintained and supported through NLPS parent volunteers working in cooperation with the principal, teachers, staff and the school council.

The aims and objectives of the Parents’ Club are to:

  • Raise funds through events for the benefit of the school through resources, equipment or supporting student based programs.
  • Contribute to the wellbeing of the school community through fun, memorable events and helping-hand programs held throughout the year.
  • Building connections and encouraging the participation of parents in the school life of their children through a parents’ run network across the classes and grades.
  • Provide opportunities for parents to learn about school operations, general education procedures and be a parent voice when the school (leadership or school council) seeks parental input on issues or policies.

How to become a Parents’ Club Member

This is truly a 'more hands make light work' space where the more parents we have involved, the more we can do and the less pressure goes onto a small group of parents to run events for the year. Registered Members have the ability to vote on current and future activities the Club organise for the year. Attending the meetings each month is recommended but not required.

We understand how busy life can be so if you want to help but can’t dedicate much time, you’re still welcome to register and participate when you can. We’ve set up volunteering programs in a way that parents can help for one off events or for ongoing programs when it works within your schedule. For example, our Fresh Fruit Program needs 5x volunteers once a week for just 30 minutes. Join us every week or just once per year, a helping hand is welcome wherever and whenever.

Friendship Lists

What is the Friendship List?

The Parents’ Club coordinates an annual Classroom Friendship List — a contact list of registered families in your child’s classroom, compiled during the first few weeks of school.

Wouldn’t it be helpful to:

  • Know who the children are in your child’s class
  • Have parent contact details for organising playdates
  • Easily send out birthday invitations
  • Get to know other parents in the class
  • Join a group chat (via WhatsApp, email, etc.) to share quick reminders (e.g., “It’s icy pole day today!” or “Does anyone have X’s jumper in their bag?”)

If you’d like to connect with other families, we encourage you to sign up for the Friendship List. A nominated Class Representative will create a group chat to help parents stay connected and share class-specific updates. This list can be especially valuable for younger students as families settle into the rhythm of school life.

Important Details:

  • The Friendship List will only be shared within your child’s class and will not be distributed across the entire year level.
  • By signing up, you agree to the following:
    • The list is solely for encouraging social interaction among Newport Lakes Primary School (NLPS) children and families.
    • It must not be used to promote businesses.
    • To protect privacy, the list must not be shared outside of the NLPS community.
    • The Friendship List is an informal initiative by the Parents’ Club and is not an official document of NLPS. Its purpose is to foster community connections within classrooms.

We look forward to building a strong sense of community through this initiative!

To sign up, fill in a form at the front office or complete the form online via the QR code.

Class Parent Representatives

What is the Class Representative Program?

Having a Class Representative for each class, especially in the younger years makes a big difference in keeping families connected and informed. While the role is not a large commitment, it greatly enhances communication within the school community.

Suggested Class Rep Tasks for the Year:

  • Distribute the Friendship List to parents on the list (this will be provided by the Parents’ Club).
  • Set up a distribution group (e.g., WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, or email) to help parents stay connected.
  • Share volunteer requests from the Parents’ Club when needed.
  • Coordinate a group gift for the teacher at the end of the year (if the class chooses to, using a platform like GroupTogether).
  • Organise social catch-ups for parents or parents and children throughout the year.

**You can select to be a class rep through the above friendship form.**

Hard copies of the Friendship List form are available at the School Office. Please try to submit the form ASAP to give the Parents’ Club enough time to organise and distribute the lists.

Don't have spare time but still want to help?

We understand that not everyone is able to offer their time to help at school events but there are other ways you could help. Parents Club are seeking feedback from families who may have the capacity to support the school and Parents Club in other ways through their work, hobbies, skills or connections. For example, discounts, vouchers, donations of products for raffles or prizes, venue hire and more!

Please take the time to complete this form to let us know if and how you can help.

We respect your privacy so this information will only be for the Parents Club unless requested by you for marketing purposes. When we have an event that we feel we can leverage your offerings we will be in contact.

If you need any further information about this please contact us.
