Student Radio Experience
Last term, our students were involved in an exciting radio broadcast workshop held at our at our Bentleigh East Campus. The focus of the radio workshop was on Leadership, allowing students to host special guests from across the College, interviewing staff and student leaders.
Facilitated by LIVE FM, our program is part of a national series across schools and colleges taking a deeper look at what great leadership looks like in their world.
Twenty students took up this wonderful opportunity, including the behind-the-scenes of live radio, including industry tips, and opportunity to host their own segment. While interviewing the staff and students, our hosts and audience got to gain insightful and inspiring advice about leadership.
"This was truly enjoyable. We got to learn about so many new traits and events from various teachers' and students' lives. For example, one of our teachers started as a journalist and then later decided to become a teacher. We learnt what questions you should ask in an interview, specifically around how they've shown leadership in their lives. We now also know a few actions you can do during in an interview to show your group that you have a follow up question or if you would like to ask the next question. Overall I found the experience of being on the radio extraordinarily enjoyable." Angus P, Year 8
A big thank you to our students and special guests for participating in this unique and exciting event.

We look forward to seeing both Fraser and Christian represent our College at the ACC Athletics Carnival on Feb 27 at Lakeside Stadium.
Congratulations Thomas W (Year 12), who won the Gold Medal in the 2024 Regional WorldSkills Australia Competition for VETiS Plumbing (Vocational Education and Training In Schools). Thomas is an excellent and enthusiastic student in his VCE-VM and we are thrilled for him.
"I was nominated by my TAFE teacher to compete in the WorldSkills Australia competition for plumbing. This involved several weeks of training evenings after school to develop my skills and help me prepare for the competition.
The competition was held at Holmesglen TAFE, and four of us competed on the day. We were given the challenge of reading and interpreting building plans, provided with the resources needed and had 4 hours to complete the task and pressure test it for leaks.
On February 6, I attended a presentation ceremony at Swinburne University to receive my gold medal! The model I built scored the highest in the Melbourne East regions with a score of 89%.
This competition is held across seven regions in Victoria and the winner from each region has the opportunity to compete in the National Competition in Brisbane this June.
I will begin training for the Nationals soon, and I look forward to representing Victoria at this 3-day competition, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
All our best to you Thomas for the Nationals!
Congratulations to the Year 12 students participating in our High Achievers Program. Our first two sessions kicked off in early February, including a Study Skills session with specialists, Elevate Education.
Students are now appointed a dedicated College-based Mentor who will tailor their work with them across their Year 12 journey in any relevant aspects each student requires, whether it be goal-setting, time management, study habits, actioning feedback, managing wellbeing, health and stress, study / work / life balance, staying accountable and maintaining motivation.
We look forward to further enriching them during their final year of secondary education.
