Keeping Our College Beautiful
As Integral Ecological Leader and one of the VCE Environmental Science staff, I am very passionate about looking after our planet for us to enjoy now and for the generations that come after us.
As we move to becoming Litter Free Lunch, I would like to note how inspiring it has been to see so many students using lunch boxes and reusable containers, rather than contributing to landfill. There has been a real reduction in single use water bottles with more students bringing refillable drink bottles.
At our Mentone Campus, the oval overlooking beautiful Port Phillip Bay has considerably less litter, which means less plastics and rubbish making its way to drains and the bay.
Every day around 8 million pieces of plastic makes their way into our oceans so it is important that we reduce, reuse and recycle.
A reminder to all students that you lunch is not to be eaten on ovals or other recreational areas. Once you have finished your lunch, place any rubbish in the correct bin, leave your lunch boxes and drink bottles on the steps or tables, and then enjoy your break.
To become more sustainable at home, please visit Kingston Council's environment page.
You can also check out the 'Trash Talk’ podcast on waste education, encouraging best practices around waste and recycling.
Together we can all be litter free and we make a difference!
