What's happening in Term 1

Years 3-4

Welcome to Term 1 of 2025! We are excited to kick off an engaging and dynamic STEM journey for our Year 3-4 students. This term, we have two fantastic units planned that will help your child develop essential skills for the digital world and explore the exciting possibilities of technology and sustainability.

In the Digital Citizenship and Introduction to Google Suite unit, students will build digital literacy by learning about responsible online behaviour and effective file management. Over five weeks, they will explore important topics such as digital citizenship, online safety, and how to organize digital files using Google Suite tools like Google Drive, Docs, and Classroom. They will also learn to create strong passwords, manage school accounts, and submit assignments online. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students will gain confidence in navigating digital platforms while practicing safe and respectful behaviour. By the end of the unit, they will have a strong foundation for managing their digital presence responsibly.

In the Our Dynamic Community unit, students will explore how communities function and adapt through the lens of design, technology, and sustainability. They will investigate how digital systems, such as renewable energy devices and communication technologies, help address community needs. Throughout the unit, students will collaborate to design sustainable solutions, analyse data, and create user interfaces. By applying STEM principles, they will gain a deeper understanding of how communities grow and change and how innovative, sustainable solutions can contribute to thriving, resilient communities.

It’s going to be an exciting and enriching term! I look forward to supporting your child as they explore these fascinating topics.

Year 5-6

Welcome to Term 1 of 2025! This term, Year 5-6 students will explore two exciting STEM units: Advanced Global Digital Citizenship and Refraction, Absorption, and Reflection in Science.

In the Advanced Global Digital Citizenship unit, students will learn about digital citizenship, online safety, and ethical behaviour. They'll explore digital activism, plan advocacy campaigns, and present their projects using tools like Canva and Google Slides. By the end of the unit, students will understand how to use technology responsibly and make a positive impact online.

In Refraction, Absorption, and Reflection in Science, students will experiment with light to understand how it behaves when it passes through different materials. They'll explore how light bends, absorbs, and reflects, and apply these concepts to real-world scenarios. This hands-on unit will help students build scientific inquiry skills while learning about the science of light.

We’re excited for the students’ journeys in these engaging and hands-on learning experiences!
