A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Foundie Students

Last Thursday was the first full day for our fabulous Foundies of 2025! This year, we have had a more extensive transition program than normal. This has given our students and their families the time and space to truly connect with staff and school environments in a very genuine and heartfelt way. During their first two full days the Foundies experienced a range of school activities including Guided Play, Specialist lessons, visiting the library and playing with their big buddies at recess and lunch. The entire BNWPS community is incredibly proud of our Foundies and the enthusiasm they have shown as they embark on this new adventure.

Open Afternoon

On Friday 14th February at 2.45pm parents and carers are invited to come along to their child’s class and the specialist spaces to meet the teachers, experience the space and look at the learning we have achieved in our first weeks. This afternoon is not intended to be an opportunity for parents/carers to conference with the teacher. There will be no assembly on this day.

After the Open Afternoon, we invite all families to join us at the Wominjeka Picnic.

Junior School Learning Community Leaders

As we mentioned last week, each section of the school has an appointed member of the leadership team (a Learning Community Leader) who works alongside the teachers and the team leader to support the students, families and staff from that team.

In the junior school, we have Alice Hamilton and Lilly Van Dyk sharing this role. To streamline communication processes, we have created one email address that will reach both of the Junior Community Leaders, The email address is juniorleaders@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au. This means that parents/carers do not need to think about which leader works on which day when reaching out, and it means that Lilly and Alice can work through communication with a sense of sequence.

Term One Inquiry Focus

As we begin a new school year, and start to build new class communities, we are also starting a new Inquiry Cycle. This new Inquiry is intended to help classroom communities get to know each other and reflect on their strengths as learners and humans.

The School Wide Key Understanding for our Inquiry this term is;

Through our relationships we consider the rights and responsibilities of our diverse community. We work together to build resilience.

Classes and cohorts across the whole school will be unpacking and exploring all of the concepts, celebrations and challenges that come with  this key understanding.

Teaching and learning that falls under the ‘umbrella’ of this School Wide Key Understanding is unpacked for families in the Learning Itinerary sent to families through Sentral. If you have not seen this itinerary, please let your teacher know.

It might be a good idea to chat about this understanding at home too - maybe pick out some key words or concepts and brainstorm what they might mean to the family.
