Year 2 Science Expo
On Tuesday afternoon, Year 2 students proudly shared their Science learning about our Solar System with the school community. They did a wonderful job explaining what they had learnt and showcasing their creative models and dioramas. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm and knowledge on display.
Student Learning -5/6
This week the Grade 5/6's had a visit from the Naz and Jess from the Imagine Program through Paralympics Australia. Naz is a rugby paralympian who has competed in 5 Paralympics. He has 2 gold and one silver medal. We got to see his gold medal from Rio. It was huge! The imagine program aims to
- Create behavioural change by giving participants practical tools to make the world a more inclusive place.
- Challenge people's perceptions and attitudes towards people with a disability by inviting Paralympians into schools.
- Educate students about the Paralympic Movement, the Games and Para-sports.
Break down stigma surrounding disability from an early age.
Our hosts were engaging and entertaining and the students were entralled.
We have been working on our Inquiry projects in 5/6. We have chosen an Indigenous mob to research. We are getting our posters ready to show off to our parents and carers on the last day of school at 2 pm.
Lee St Italian Connections
Next term Grade 5/6 students will be studying about the cultural connections between the different regions of Italy and Australia.
My father, Silvano came from the border region of Istria (near Veneto) and my cousins later moved to Guidonia near Roma in the region of Lazio. Dad brought many family traditions with him when he migrated including some amazing local dishes that my family still make today.
I would love to share some of the stories of the connections Lee St families have with Italy, similar to my own.
We will be looking in class at: which towns and regions families with Italian links originated from; and any traditions that are still followed today. Please note that passing on personal information like family names is optional and discussions in class will be focussed on the different types of traditions shared without necessarily identifying specific family details.
I invite families to share this information by following the link to the Google form below:
