On 17–18 June, ten members of the ICCES Netball team travelled to Shepparton to compete in the annual ICCES Winter Tour, hosted by Goulburn Valley Grammar School (GVGS). For many of the players, this was their final ICCES tournament, making the event especially significant after months of dedicated training and preparation.

The team began the tournament strongly, recording impressive wins against Braemar College, Girton Grammar School, and Moama Anglican Grammar School. Day One concluded with the team undefeated despite challenging weather conditions and a demanding six-game schedule.

On Friday, the team faced Bacchus Marsh Grammar School in a crucial match for direct entry into the Grand Final. Despite a determined effort, they suffered their first loss of the tournament. The girls responded well, defeating Highview College to secure another opportunity to compete for the title.

In the Grand Final, the team once again met Bacchus Marsh Grammar School. Despite the absence of one of their key shooters and facing a much larger school, the girls displayed exceptional resilience, teamwork, and determination. While the result did not fall their way, reaching the Grand Final was a remarkable achievement and a testament to their commitment throughout the tournament.

Special recognition goes to Saskia Gould for her outstanding shooting accuracy and to Mischa Wear for her strong defensive performance and numerous interceptions.

Thank you to Mrs Joyce for organising the tour, GVGS for hosting another successful event, and coaches Mrs Malseed and Mrs Hausler for their guidance and support. Most importantly, congratulations to all the players for their hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication. You represented the College with pride and should be extremely proud of your achievements.

Basketball

ICCES - Shepparton

On Wednesday, 17 June, the ICCES basketball team piled onto the bus, raring for the challenging competition ahead of us in Shepparton. The team gathered early to discuss the game plan with our coach, Andrew Hoskyns, before heading off to the stadium. The ICCES winter tour began with an address by the Principal of GVGS and a match-up against Bacchus Marsh Grammar. Sixteen-minute games forced us to start well.

Luckily, we did, going bucket for bucket with a school with ten times as many students. Unfortunately, in a close-fought game, we lost 14-18. After some wise words from coach Andrew and a newfound drive to get into the win column, we won three games in a row against Moama Grammar, Girton Grammar, and Highview College, with some highlight plays from Ahmed.

In our fifth game of the day, we faced Braemar College. Unfortunately, we had a disappointing start, ultimately putting us into a big deficit, and with limited time, the gap was too big to overcome. Our last game of day one was arguably our hardest, facing GVGS.

The game began, and we were inseparable on the scoreboard until the last few minutes. With a couple of clutch buckets and some excellent defensive work on their best player, we snuck away with the win by three points, a great way to end the day, giving us extra motivation going into day two. It would also "make dinner taste better", said Oli Credlin.

We ended day one with a 4-2 record and sat at fourth seed by percentage, which would prove detrimental to us. Going into day two, we had to win five straight games to win it all.

Day two was a new format of 12-minute halves and our first game started early at 8.30am, against Moama Grammar in an elimination game. After a motivational speech from coach Andrew, we started hot, blowing out a big first-half lead and holding them scoreless in the first half. We were able to maintain this comfortable lead, ultimately setting us up with a matchup against Girton.

As the game began, we were unable to continue our hot start from game one. We made a push at halftime, but sadly the deficit was too big to overcome, ultimately ending our winter tour.

Having a team made up of a majority of Year 11s, College basketball looks to bounce back next year in a bigger and better way.

With another excellent week of basketball, the U12B girls team secured a well-deserved victory against the Tigers, winning 31–3 with an impressive 28-point margin. The girls are enjoying a strong season, consistently demonstrating excellent teamwork and continued improvement in each game. Hazel Johns was once again a standout performer, contributing 12 points and securing rebounds. Hazel's persistence and positive impact on both ends of the court continue to make her an important contributor to the team's success.

U14B Snowy Owls secured a strong 26–16 victory over Minders Blue. A standout performer was Pippa Quinn, who contributed 8 points. The team demonstrated great determination and teamwork.

U14B Sooty Owls also delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Saint Mary’s 42–14 in a dominant 28-point victory. Every player stepped up and contributed on the scoreboard. Well done to Annika Nelson, who scored 14 points, secured crucial rebounds, and displayed exceptional teamwork throughout the game.

U16B girls had a bye this week, providing an opportunity to rest and prepare for their upcoming match against Minders.

Div 2 Snowy Owls faced a tough challenge against Pure Envy Coasters and emerged with a hard-fought 33–27 victory. The game was highly competitive against a talented young opposition, but College managed to hold its composure and secure the win. Saskia Gould was a standout performer, scoring 16 points, and Naomi Lee played an important role, creating fast-break opportunities through her quick reactions and court awareness.

Div 3 College Majestic Owls recorded an impressive 33–17 win over Minders White. It was a strong team performance, with every player contributing and showing great teamwork. Elsie Brown was outstanding, scoring 21 points and dominating the rebounds under the basket before converting second-chance opportunities. Ava Ryan made a valuable contribution with 6 points, helping the team maintain its momentum until the final buzzer.

Hockey

ICCES

The College hockey team had a good run at ICCES, competing in Shepparton with players from across multiple year levels.

College was successful in their initial games, winning against Bacchus Marsh, Girton Grammar, GVGS, Moama Grammar and Braemar College, and drawing against Ballarat Grammar.

They took on Ballarat Grammar in the semi-final which resulted in a shoot-out, lifting the score from 1-1 to 3-1 in College’s favour. College was into the Grand Final; facing off with Ballarat Grammar again. Sadly, College went down 2-1 in a hard-fought battle.

Standout players for the tournament included Oscar Smith, Charlie Jarvis, Grace Potter, Oscar Hawthorne and Marianna Novikov. We congratulate the team on their efforts!

It was a tough game for the Div One Women’s against Colerain, with key players being away at ICCESS hockey. It was a well-fought game with Jess Templeton stepping up to the plate. Our forward line was held strong with Jess Hein and Abby Henderson. We look forward to playing Dunkeld Blue this week.

The Div One Men’s had a successful game against the Rams. There was quick ball movement and runs, and they had a 3-1 lead heading into the first half. However, the second half saw the Rams close down their run and draw with College 3-3.
