As we reach the end of a rewarding Term Two, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all in our Myrniong learning community for their contributions. It has been a term of learning, growth, and celebration. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, through the arts, or in the many co-curricular experiences on offer at the College, we have much to be proud of. I thank our students for their commitment to learning and the energy they bring to our school days. To our families, thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. I would like to also acknowledge our dedicated Myrniong staff, whose commitment, passion, and care create the supportive environment in which our students thrive. Their efforts often extend well beyond the school day, and I am grateful for all they do.
Whether travelling or enjoying a well-deserved staycation, wishing all a safe, happy, and relaxing school holiday break.
Holiday Food for Thought - Charlotte Ree, a new columnist for The Weekend Australian, writes thoughtful and reflective pieces that often invite readers to pause and consider the world around them. In a recent article titled Listen Up – I’m All Ears to the World, she reflects on how many of us now inhabit a world where “each individual is absorbed in a private stream of sound – podcasts, playlists, the cushioned comfort of noise-cancelling headphones.”
Ree argues that, in our constant consumption of content, we risk becoming disconnected from the richness of everyday life. She suggests that much of what makes life meaningful is lost through simple inattention, asking: “How many days dissolve because we fail to notice the world around us?” As a response, she has stopped wearing headphones and scrolling on her phone while travelling on public transport or walking through the city. She describes this as “walking the city undefended” and writes, “Because to be alive is not merely to consume. It is to participate. To remain alert to the texture of things. To let the world interrupt you.” As we head into the school holidays, perhaps there is value in accepting Ree’s challenge. Take a walk without headphones. Leave your phone in your pocket. Notice the conversations, sounds, colours and characters that surround you. Disconnect for a while and reconnect with the world. You may be surprised by what you discover.
Mrs Sharon Kelly will be taking long service leave for the first five weeks of Term Three. Ms Tzu Winstanley will be teaching the Prep class.
Ms Elizabeth Cvetkovski will depart the Learning Support department at the end of this term. Ms Cvetkovski has worked as a learning aid across several classes at the Junior School, commencing in 2025. We thank her for her work supporting our students.
Our S.R.C’s Great Book Swap was held last Friday and raised over $100.00 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Well done to Anika Nelson and Mila McCabe for their hard work in coordinating the fundraiser. Thank you to all the students and families who supported this initiative by supplying books and donating money. We will look to hold a second Great Book Swap in Term Four.
Best of luck to all College students who will be representing the Southwest Eagles at the Junior State Championships in the upcoming school holidays.
