Wellbeing Matters

Creating Futures Together

Year 7 Healthy Minds Program

The Healthy Minds Program started this week for our year 7 cohort. The students engaged well with the first module which covered:

  • The notion that just as we can create high levels of physical health through our daily behaviours, we can also create high levels of mental health
  • The helpful vs unhelpful aspects of perfectionism, with an emphasis on challenging the unhelpful aspects
  • A video example of unhelpful perfectionism with opportunities for reflection & discussion
  • The idea that mistakes, failures and facing challenges can have benefits (perfectionists often don’t hold this belief) and are an essential part of personal growth and learning
  • Students were encouraged to survey family members and friends to see how they view perfectionism, and if they can personally relate to it. Keep in mind many perfectionists wear the label as a badge of honour, and do not always see the problems it can create. Many people do not realise that high levels of perfectionism are actually associated with reduced achievement.

Each week provides two opportunities for exposure to the key concepts - once, through the group presentation, and again in the classroom lesson. We will be sharing weekly parent modules for you to follow along with the content students are learning each week. Find the first parents module below

Parents/Carers evening workshop

Thank you to the parents who joined Tuesday’s (27/08/24) parents/carers evening workshop. It was wonderful to see parents engaging with the content. We will be sharing a copy of the recording on compass soon. Please keep an eye out for it. Access will be limited to two weeks to view. Some key take away messages from the presentation can be found here.

Wellbeing Student Placement Program

We currently have five counselling students onsite providing support to our students until the end of the year. They are in the process of completing their Masters of Counselling at either Monash or Victoria University.

Having these counselling students provides a valuable resource for our student body, offering increased access to mental health support at school.

Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where students wellbeing and mental health are our top priorities. We encourage both parents and students to reach out early if there are any concerns so that we can offer timely interventions. Please be assured that counselling sessions are strictly confidential unless safety risks are identified. Parents can contact our Learning and Wellbeing Leaders to discuss concerns and initiate referrals.

For students, your first point of contact is your teachers and the relevant Learning and Wellbeing Leaders. Students can also self-refer for wellbeing support using our student referral form  Click Here. The referral forms are also accessible through the wellbeing office, which is open to all students. A member of the wellbeing staff will get in touch with you as soon as possible to schedule a session.
