WHSC Professional Learning Day: A Recap

On August 19th, the staff at WHSC came together for a day of professional learning and collaboration. The day's agenda was packed with insightful sessions and opportunities for growth.

The day started with a warm welcome, followed by a session on Diabetes Awareness led by Carolyn Dickinson, our school nurse. Andrew Douch then took the stage to deliver an inspiring presentation on "Innovation to Elevate: Rekindling Joy and Solving Classroom Challenges." He emphasised the importance of innovation in teaching and shared practical strategies to overcome common classroom obstacles.

After a refreshing morning tea, Judy Anderson led a session on "High Impact Wellbeing Strategies in Action," focusing on the Jigsaw protocol for effective group engagement. The afternoon included dedicated time for collaborative work, allowing staff to put their new learning into practice.

The professional learning day was a resounding success. It provided staff with valuable insights and tools to enhance their teaching practices and well-being.

Let's carry the momentum forward! We encourage all staff to continue exploring and implementing the strategies and ideas gained from the professional learning day. Share your experiences, collaborate with colleagues, and let's create a more innovative and joyful learning environment for everyone at WHSC!

The Great Wheelers Hill Bake Off

On August 19th, while the teaching staff engaged in professional development activities, the education support staff at Wheelers Hill Secondary College participated in their own experience: The Great Wheelers Hill Bake Off. This event was a fun way for our diverse team, which ranges from maintenance and IT support to science, technology and inclusion, to come together.

With a blend of long-standing team members and new faces, this event served as an excellent opportunity for team-building and discovering hidden talents. The staff were divided into teams, given a budget, and had a three-hour window to select a team name, delegate tasks, shop for ingredients, bake and present their creations to the judging panel.

The competition was fierce, with the high standard of baking resulting in a tie for first place. Congratulations to Team Spice and Slice of Heaven for their outstanding efforts!

A big thank you to all our wonderful education support staff who participated with enthusiasm and creativity. The real winner of the day was the fabulous selection of homemade goodies enjoyed by everyone during afternoon tea. It was a wonderful demonstration of teamwork and culinary skills, highlighting the diverse talents within our team.
