2024 Australian Schools Band and Orchestra Festival (ASBOF)
Last Sunday, our senior music ensembles were down at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music taking part in the Australian Schools Band and Orchestra Festival (ASBOF). It was a long day which kicked off with the Concert Band in the Graham Lloyd Secondary School Concert Band Event in the morning. The boys played magnificently and, for the first time ever, received a Gold award! Their performance put them up there with bands from other schools such as Barker, Abbotsleigh, SCEGGS Darlinghurst and The Scots College. Our newly formed Jazz Orchestra went next and in their first year of playing together received an amazing Silver award for their efforts. Later that evening, our College Orchestra played out of their skin and delivered an outstanding performance in the Richard Gill Secondary School Orchestra Premier Event. Sadly, on the night, their excellent performance was not reflected in the adjudication, and they received a Bronze. Every boy involved should hold their heads up high and be very proud of what they’ve achieved.
Last week also saw the annual Performing Arts Showcase, which was a good warm-up for ASBOF. The night was a great success and over 186 boys got the chance to showcase their talent to the College community. I’m incredibly proud of all of them, from the Training Band and junior ensembles, right up to our senior groups.
