Music - Takes You on a Journey
Last Thursday night I was privileged to witness one of the most amazing concerts I have ever seen. The 2024 Performing Arts Showcase was held at Marie Bashir Public School, and it proved to be another great night where we witnessed some wonderful performances from our talented musicians and choristers. Over the course of the evening, we heard from our youngest musicians and the evening culminated with the College Concert Band. There were so many different ensembles including guitar, strings and saxophones. We had College Orchestras and Bands.
The Drumline had the audience in awe as did the College Choir. There were so many highlights, however, the Concert Band truly took the audience on a journey through their music. They are such talented young men, and it was great to be in the room to see all their hard work come to fruition. Dr David Taylor our Ensemble Coordinator has done an amazing job along with the rest of our Music staff to get these young men to such a high level. On the evening, I loved it when he said to the boys, “playing an instrument is hard, in a world where we essentially have instant gratification, you need to keep trying hard things as the rewards will come.” We saw those rewards on the night. Music has the power to take us on our own journey. It allows our mind to wander and unlocks our creativity. Congratulations to all the young men and staff who were involved in the evening and of course the parents/carers who do the early morning drop-offs and encourage their sons to keep practicing.
