Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3
It is great to see the sunshine come out and dry up all the fields in preparation for the upcoming Summer season. It would have been nice to see this type of weather more consistently throughout the Winter season. With this warmer weather, it is important that all boys wear their black sport cap when out on the playgrounds and for PE lessons. Boys would also benefit from having their drink bottle with them at these times as well.
Recently, I have had a number of enquiries regarding Summer sport selections for Term 4. Please be aware that Term 4 Summer sport selections are only for students in Year 7 and up. Boys in the Junior School are expected to continue in their teams from Term 1. The Junior School Summer season runs from Term 1 to 4, while the Senior School season runs Term 4 to Term 1 the following year. Students in Year 6 will not be eligible for Summer teams in Term 1 next year, their first year of Year 7. They will have the opportunity to be involved in the Crichton Cup cricket competition in Term 1, a house-based competition. Mr Calavassy will be speaking directly to the Year 6 students later this year regarding their options for sport in Year 7.
The Junior School Athletics Squad has been working hard and reaping the rewards for their efforts. Friday saw the squad compete in the annual BPSSA carnival at St Ignatius’, Riverview. The boys competed well on the day and came away with a handful of ribbons. There were many close races and outstanding performances on the day. William Symonds managed to close a 20m gap in the 11years 800m race, to be just beaten at the post for first place.
In rugby news, we congratulate Jonah Ayoub and Joseph Youssef who competed in the NSWPSSA championships in Wagga Wagga for the U/12 CIS Rugby team last week. Joseph Youssef was also named Captain of the side. A big three days of competition saw the team win four out of six games defeating the likes of Sydney Southwest, Riverina, North Coast and Hunter, a draw to Sydney East and a loss to the eventual winners, Polding.
Both Jonah and Joseph played a pivotal role in leading the team to a bronze medal and did so proudly representing our College with passion, commitment and a tireless effort to compete at the highest level against some of the best junior athletes in the state. Both Jonah and Joseph went on to be selected in the NSW Team. A just reward for all their hard work and commitment to their rugby.

This week we also have another student representing the CIS in Football. Christian Boutros in Year 6 will travel to Tamworth with the team and compete in the NSWPSSA competition. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to hearing of his experiences.
Training for Summer sports will recommence upon our return in Term 4. Draft draws and training schedules will be released prior to the beginning of Term 4.
