Book Week

Next week is Book Week!  The theme for this year is ‘Reading is Magic’ and throughout the week students will complete activities and participate in incursions celebrating the stories and characters we love.  Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character for our parade on Monday, 19th August.  This will start as close to 9:00am as possible.  Parents are welcome to attend!

Swimming Program

Our Prep – 4 Swimming program is booked for Term 4. The Prep–2 program will run from Monday 7 October until Friday 18 October. The Year 3-4 students will attend from Monday 21 October until Friday 1 November. Both programs will be undertaken at Korowa. Permission forms containing further information will be sent home to parents by the end of Term 3.

This year our Year 5/6 students will be participating in a Lifesaving Victoria excursion on Thursday 28 November. The venue for this is weather dependant and will be decided closer to the day.

End of Term Events

Our year 1 and 2 teachers are busy planning the ‘extended day’ activities for students on Thursday 19 September.  Further information to come shortly. There is no slowing down for Solway students with the Father’s Day Stall, Multicultural Day, House and District Athletics and footy dress up day still to come!

Students leaving Solway at the end of 2024

A reminder that we are currently beginning our planning for 2025.  We seek information from any family with students who will NOT be returning to Solway in 2025, excluding our Year 6 graduating students. If this applies to you, please send an email to Kateya.nancarrow@education.vic.gov.au to indicate this information. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated as we are commencing budget planning for 2025 and accurate enrolments are critical to this process.

Warmer Weather

This week we are reminded that our colder weather is on the way out and the sun is trying it’s best to warm our bones. The UV is increasing, and this is a timely reminder to ensure your child has their hat at school each day.  If the UV is 3 or above during snack and lunch, students will be instructed to put hats on. If students do not have a hat they will be directed to play in the shade.

Disco

How good was the disco!!  It was wonderful to see students and teachers getting down to some funky beats in the hall last Thursday evening. We had record attendance for this years event! Thank you to Josh Guy and his SRC team for all their hard work and to our amazing teachers for attending out of hours.  Without you we couldn’t hold events such as this.

House Athletics

Our Year 3-6 House Athletics are on this Thursday 15 August.  If you have some time to spare, please consider heading down to Bill Sewart Athletics track to assist!  Remember, all parents and friends volunteering must have a valid Working with Children Check and have completed our parent helper’s course.
