Message from the Principal Team

Week 7, Term 3

Message from Rachel

Thank you to our phenomenal school community for being so supportive and positive about my decision to accept a new position as an Executive Principal.

As posted on Compass on Tuesday, it is with mixed emotions that I share that I have been offered a position with the Department of Education as an Executive Principal - Intensive School Support Team Leader working in the Central Office. The position is very exciting as I will be working with the Intensive School Support Teams in each Region to improve individual and statewide school performance. This means that I will be leaving Carlton North Primary School at the start of Term 4.

I have been the Principal of Carlton North Primary School since April 2016 and absolutely love the school and the community. Two of my own children have attended the school, and I am sad to be leaving such an amazing team of staff, gorgeous children and beautiful school community.

The appointment is currently provisional and subject to a 14 day appeal process. While this period is in process, the school’s Senior Education Improvement Leader, Jane Grieg-Hancock, will advertise an Acting Principal position for Term 4 and work closely with our School Council President, Rebecca Slater, on the next steps for appointing a substantive Principal for Carlton North Primary School. That team will ensure that the school community is appropriately kept up to date.

Wear It Purple Day

Thank you to Sam and our parent and student helpers who made our Wear It Purple Day Celebration such a huge success! We raised $624.50 for Minus18. Minus18 is an Australian charity aiming to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth via life-affirming events, leadership programs, and education for the whole community.

Wear It Purple Day is officially Friday 30 August. Wear It Purple Day strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.

District Athletics

Congratulations to all of our students who competed at District Athletics at Coburg Athletics Track today. We had 40 students from Years 3 to 6 attend. Thank you to Chris, Billy, Sophie L and the parents who went along to cheer them on.

Capital Works Update (as posted on Compass)

Please see the communication below, approved by the Department and the Victorian School Building Authority.

Dear School Community,

We have an exciting update on our school upgrade project.

As you may remember, in the 2024-25 State Budget, the Victorian Government granted our school a significant investment of $8.4 million to upgrade and modernise the school to give our students better learning spaces.

We're delighted to let you know that we've achieved the next major milestone in this project's journey.

Since completing our Asset Management Plan, our senior leadership has been working with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and architect to complete the project's schematic design. This is a basic sketch and plan of our upgrade to ensure we are on the right track with its direction. We can’t share these with you yet because these are still initial drawings. Areas may change in the next step, the design development phase.

We have recently commenced the design development stage; this is an important phase. The initial ideas developed during the schematic design phase are refined and transformed into a more detailed plan. This phase bridges the gap between the initial creative vision and the practical implementation of the project.

By the end of the design development phase, the project's design will be detailed enough for construction documents to be compiled. This documentation is known as Issued For Construction (IFC) documentation. These IFC documents will form the basis of the tender to engage a builder.

Once this phase is complete, we can find a builder to turn these designs into reality and share our plans with you.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We're excited to share more updates soon.

2024 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey - Reminder

To date, only 53 out of 197 CNPS Families have completed the survey!

This is a reminder for our families to please take the time to complete the 2024 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey. The data collected from this survey is invaluable in informing our school improvement and comparing our school to similar schools and schools within the Yarra/Darebin Network.

The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.

All families are invited to participate in the survey. The survey will be conducted online, will take only 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any time convenient on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones.
