Sports @ Sunbury College
Throughout this term, we have had many successful teams within our sporting program. Our Junior Boys Netball team first played in the division competition in week 3. Winning that competition, the boys continued to train until the Western Metropolitan Region competition day, benefitting from the fantastic coaching of Year 11 students, Georgie Thompson and Charli Kovacs. The team again won the WMR competition and qualified for State Championships. Heading to Waverley the boys were optimistic about their chances, knowing that their months of training would pay off. And it did! The boys made the final and, even though they lost a close match, their efforts and dedication meant them being named the 2nd best team in the entire state. Well done to the team and their coaches for this amazing achievement!
This term also saw our Junior Girls Gymnasts compete at State Championships. Congratulations to Jamie Susnjara and Xabrina Harris for their incredible accomplishments. Jamie had this to say about the day:
“On the 29th of August we went to Knox Gymnastics and competed for the school in the State Championships. Xabrina came 1st in beam and 2nd in bars and vault. She was named 1st overall for her age and division. Jamie came 1st in vault and floor and 2nd in bars, being named 2nd overall in her age and division. Our team came 1st overall for the day.”
Well done to these girls, we hope to see you continue to compete over the years!
The division athletics carnival was also held this term. Students who finished 1st place in an event at our athletics carnival in Term 2 qualified for this stage, competing against other schools in our region. Our students did amazingly well! We had many students winning events and almost everyone went home with a top 3 finish in an event. Due to our endeavour to compete in any remaining events, and our motivation to do our best, we finished 1st overall as a school. Congratulations to all students involved and good luck to those who have qualified for the Western Metropolitan Region athletics event.
