Year 11 and 12
Year 11 and Year 12 Newsletter – End of Term 3
Year 11
Year 11's have had an exciting couple of weeks making some decisions for 2025. The cohort has chosen a new style and design for their Year 12 Jumper which has been approved by the school council. Students have been trying on samples and orders are able to be placed online. Families can find the link on the Compass Newsfeed. The Senior School would like to thank Year 11 students Diamond Rizzo and Tess Collins for their work throughout this process.
After the most exciting election campaign seen at Sunbury College, the votes have been counted and our 2025 School Captains and Vice School Captains have been announced. The Senior School looks forward to working with Austin, Ayisha, Shreya and Athena next year.
On Friday 20th September we watched the second group of our students complete their Presentation Ball. The first Presentation Ball in August was a hugely enjoyable evening and we glad to do it all again!
Unit 2 VCE Attendance Outcomes
Students and families are encouraged to regularly check their VCE attendance percentages on Compass. When checking Unit 2 attendance, the start date needs to be changed to 11 June. Students are asked to provide evidence for absences due to illness whenever possible. Please contact the relevant coordinator if your child needs support around their attendance.
Year 12
Week 9, Term 3 was a huge week for our Year 12 VCE students. Students completed their final coursework and school based assessments for all subjects. Students are to be congratulated on their focus and hard work through one of their most challenging weeks yet! Students completing exams have begun exam preparation and are working on maximising their opportunities. See details below regarding the upcoming Practice Exams and Lectures occurring over the upcoming term break.
Our Year 12 VCE VM students are also nearing the end of their secondary schooling. They will complete the coursework for their school based subjects early next term. This will include presenting a persuasive speech on an issue they have been investigating and completing the group projects they have been developing with their class.
The end of secondary school is an important milestone and to celebrate, we have some key events organised that we look forward to sharing with families. Please note the following key dates:
Tuesday 22 October 2024 - This will be the final Day of formal classes for all VCE and VCE VM Students. We will have a whole school assembly during Connect followed by a lap of honour.
Wednesday 23 October 2024 - Celebration Day and Family BBQ
Thursday 28 November 2024 - Year 12 Graduation. Families will be able to buy tickets and via the Try Booking website.
Other highlights from the term
Unit 3 and 4 VCAA Exams
Unit 3 and 4 VCAA Exams heavily contribute to the calculation of student’s study scores and their ATAR. The VCAA Exams begin with the English Exam on Tuesday 29 October. Year 11 and 12 students completing VCAA exams will need to complete practice exams during Week 1 of the Term Break and Revision Lectures during Week 2. PRE-LAUNCH
Students in Mrs Fella’s Year 12 VM Personal Development Skills class have been working hard for a number of weeks to prepare for the launch of their very own Thrift Shop. The weeks prior to the launch involved the class presenting their own creative name for the Thrift Shop, and their own logo design and slogan. The class voted and Shylah Fleming’s name, Urban Refined was selected, Sienna Meaney’s logo design built on the thrift shop’s intended brand and Charlotte Grabowski’s, “Preloved goods, loved by someone new” sloganwas voted as the one to communicate the purpose of our store.
The class was divided into teams, with a Project Management, Merchandising and Stock Management, and Communications Team. Students were tasked with a range of actionable items to fulfil before the launch day. The merchandising and stock team has been sorting through donations that have predominantly come from the College staff, but also VM students themselves. The support and generosity has been amazing and we’re very grateful.
LAUNCH
On Tuesday 12 September, Urban Refined Thrift Shop was launched at Sunbury College with firstly, Year 12, 11, 7 and staff invited to browse during brunch time. There was a real buzz about the place and a line out the front of excited customers. Students in the Year 12 class were rostered on for shifts, welcoming the school community. Staff and students were impressed with what the class had accomplished in such a short time.
On Monday 16 September, the thrift shop opened to Year 8, 9 and 10 at brunch time, and we were excited to open for our parent community on Tuesday 17 Septmeber between 3:30pm - 4:30pm during the Parent/Teacher conferences.
Each item in the store is at least a gold coin donation, but we are happy for anyone to “pay what they think it’s worth”. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Sunbury College Wellbeing Program to support the enhancement of their programs and support the needs of the young people that enter their space.
Follow the thrift shop's journey and get a sneak peek at what’s available in store on our very own instagram page @urban_refined_sunbury
Warm regards,
