Year 9 and 10
Year 9 and Year 10 Newsletter – End of Term 3
With Term 3 closing it is important to reflect on the many experiences and all the work that has gone into the term by staff, students and carers.
This term is always a busy term for students, and has been especially productive for Middle School students. We saw all Year 9s engage in the Naarm Melbourne Experience Excursions throughout the term, visiting different sites around Melbourne with both cultural and historical significance. Students visited the Holocaust Museum, Werribee Zoo, Shrine of Remembrance and Scienceworks to name a few, while also learning how to navigate using train maps and bus timetables. We now look forward to the rescheduled ‘Amazing Race’ event that will take place in Term 4 after the disruptions in the city over the last few weeks.
We want to congratulate all the students who engaged in this experience and hope they enjoyed participating. It is also important to acknowledge that these events could not happen without the hard work of Year 9 Coordinator, Christine Polonidis, who went to every excursion and facilitated the timetable for the Term 3 experience. On behalf of all the students and staff, thank you for the hard work preparing this program for our students.
For Year 10s, the focus this term was on finalising subject selections in preparation for senior pathways in 2025; some completed applications to study the VCE Vocational Major certificate, whilst others engaged in discussions with the Careers Team around TAFE courses, university courses and apprenticeships. Year 10 is an incredibly important year to support students to be future focused. It has been wonderful to see so many students making informed choices about potential future pathways and plans. With the final two years of schooling not too far away now, we encourage Year 10s to continue their discussions with their coordinator, the Careers Teams, and families for how best to set themselves up for success in 2025.
Any student who wishes to discuss their course selections for 2025 should do so as soon as possible. Students who applied for a VCE VM pathway, will shortly receive a letter confirming the outcome of their application and interview. Those offered a place to study VCE VM at Sunbury College in 2025, should now be working towards finalising their placement for structured workplace learning.
Looking forward to Term 4, Year 9s will be preparing to experience their first two weeks in Year 10 during our Headstart program in weeks 7 & 8, before moving into the Vertical Learning program. Year 10s will begin exam revision in week 5, followed by Semester 2 exams, and then Headstart and preparation for VCE subjects in weeks 7 & 8.
Key Dates:
Semester 2 Exams - Week 6 (Monday 11th- Friday 15th November)
Headstart Program - Weeks 7 & 8 (Monday 18th - Friday 29th November)
Vertical Learning - Weeks 9 - 11 (Monday 2nd - Wednesday 18th December)
A reminder to families that the Vertical Learning program in weeks 9 - 11 are compulsory school days; students are expected to attend during this period, as school attendance percentage is affected.
We wish all students and their families a restful holiday, and look forward to seeing you all in Term 4.
Warm regards,
Middle School Team
