A message from our acting principal Fiona Scott-Young
Term 3 has been filled with fantastic achievements and memorable events, showcasing the diverse talents of our Sunbury College students and dedication of our staff. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the many wonderful moments in this edition of the newsletter.
High School Musical Junior
Our school production was a highlight of the term, with students delivering exceptional performances that captivated the sold-out audiences across 3 nights. Our talented performers and stage crew also entertained our local primary schools. A big thank you to our Performing Arts Coordinator Candeece Brown for leading this school event. To bring together the many elements of a production is a huge and demanding role in which Candeece, and her team, really thrive. From makeup, set design, ticketing, food, costumes, sound, lighting, music and learning the show, it takes a big, committed and devoted team. Special mention to our very talented Year 12s for their leadership of younger cast members and support of the performing arts at our school. The cast, musicians, and crew have worked tirelessly all year, and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication.
2024 Victorian State School Spectacular
I had the absolute privilege in attending the matinee of this massive production at John Caine Arena on Saturday 14 September. The program showcases and unites Victorian primary and secondary government schools through working towards a common goal of students reaching the highest level of achievement in the performing arts. With over 3,000 students involved and 10,000 people in the audience, our Sunbury College students absolutely shone on the big stage. Congratulations to Travis Boase, a lead vocalist, for his phenomenal talent, and lead dancers Eloise Henry, Isobel Henry, Ruby Edwards and Macey Harvie who excelled with energy, high level skill and enthusiasm. Jinx Bailey was also involved in the spectacular lighting for the show. The event will be televised on Saturday 14 December at 7 pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Course Counselling
Our course counselling process has been in full swing this term across the school, ensuring that our students are on the right path to achieve their goals and future pathways. Thoughtful planning and guidance are crucial as we prepare our students for the year ahead, and I thank our staff and families for their support in helping students choose the right pathways for a successful 2025 at Sunbury College.
Student Leadership
The school was a buzz in the lead up to school captain selections, with campaign speeches and communications appearing around the school. On election day the ECA transformed into a polling booth; all students across the school had the opportunity to preferentially vote for the candidates. The principal team and Senior School Leader, Sarah Heath, also joined together with candidates to discuss their leadership journey so far and what they want to achieve if they are selected as captains for 2025.
I would like to acknowledge the brilliant work of our Student Leadership Coordinator, Brie Berzins, who works alongside our student leaders, creating so many opportunities for student voice throughout the term. Our student leaders have been very active in organising school events, assisting with community activities, and inspiring our students to achieve many great things which reflect our values across the school.
Congratulations to our College Captains: Austyn Edwards and Ayisha Abou-Eid, and Vice College Captains: Athena Avramopoulos and Shreya Farwaha on being elected to the roles. We look forward to working with you in 2025.
Preparing for academic success
I wish our VCE Unit 3 and 4 students all the very best as they embark on practice exams and revision lectures over the spring term break. This compulsory aspect of completing a Year 12 VCE subject sets our students up for success for the short remainder of their academic year. For the remainder of our students, please enjoy a safe break and use the time to recharge and set yourself up for a busy and productive Term 4.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Melissa Casha for her seamless transition into the Acting Assistant Principal role this term. A big thank you to the Sunbury College community for your support and encouragement during my term as Acting Principal. I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the role, and we are very much looking forward to Craig O’Bree returning in Term 4 after a well-deserved holiday.
Have a fantastic break and congratulations on a very successful Term 3.
Warm regards
