Wominjeka Day Camps - 3/4s
As part of our Wominjeka Week celebrations, the Grade 3/4 children were involved in a variety of activities, where we worked together, shared experiences and finished the week with Fish and Chips.
Wominjeka (pronounced wo-min-je-ka) is an important word in the Woi-wurrung (Wurundjeri) and Boon Wurrung (Bunurong) languages of the Kulin Nation. While it's typically used as a welcome, it has approximately 26 various meanings, including: ‘come with purpose, this is a safe place, I see you today, you are here, you are invited to learn, you are welcome to share, commit to respecting this land’, and much more. It represents a respectful acknowledgement of Traditional Owners across Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, and surrounding coastal areas. Land on which we live, learn, work and play, every single day.
On Tuesday, May 12th, Taskwork visited St John's, and our task was to work together to solve problems and achieve common goals.
During this two-hour workshop, students worked with life-sized equipment that requires genuine collaboration. They engaged in activities such as:
Building "Ernie" the Robot: Students must communicate and coordinate to dismantle and rebuild a large-scale robot in new and creative ways.
The Kid Lifter: Working in groups of four, students will need to discuss and synchronise their physical movements to operate this unique machine correctly.
Children also had to work collaboratively in an engineering activity, tackling large-scale items like trains or go-karts, where parts are too heavy for one person, requiring students to ask for help and delegate roles.
On Wednesday May 13, we ventured off to Melbourne via bus and train, which was an experience in itself. The children were competing in the Urban Quest challenge, in which they race against other groups to solve intricate riddles, hunt for hidden clues, crack codes, and complete challenges while navigating the Royal Botanical Gardens. The children and adults had a terrific time, and the train trip home was definitely a quieter experience.
On Friday, May 16, we went to watch the movie Hoppers (PG). This experience was designed to support our classroom investigations into Living and Non-Living Things, specifically looking at how we distinguish between the two and how living things are grouped based on observable features.
Following our movie, we walked to Ballam Park, where we had a great time playing on all the equipment, and some Flying Fox adventures were had.
Lunch arrived from Captain Gummy’s Fish and Chip shop, and a treat was had by all.
A special thanks to all the staff and parent helpers who enabled us to have a wonderful week

Adanac Adventure Camp - 5/6s
By Amelia
Camp Adanac was seriously the best! We got to do so many awesome activities like canoeing on the lake, archery, flying fox, low ropes, hut building, bombardment, disc golf, and beach volleyball. We even got to cook damper over the fire!
Free time was just as good. Everyone was always hanging out at the trampolines, playing gaga ball, or having intense matches of cage soccer. On the first night, we went on a super cool night walk around the camp, and on the second night, we got to chill out and watch Wall-E together. It was such a fun week!

The cabins at camp were so nice, especially because we got to share them with most of our friends!
In the girls' cabin, we had two connected rooms on both sides and two bathrooms. Plus, we had an awesome veranda outside with a beautiful view of the mountains, lake, and valley.
The boys' cabins were almost exactly the same, complete with the same cool bunk beds. They were super neat and clean, and the beds were nice and soft. The main differences? The boys had their own bathrooms and a small window to look out of. We all loved hanging out in our cabins!

If you love good food, Camp Adanac definitely didn't disappoint! We were served so many delicious meals during our trip.
Breakfasts: We started our mornings with heaps of choices. You could grab cereal like Weet-Bix or Rice Bubbles with milk, or make toast with honey, raspberry jam, or Vegemite.
Lunches: On day one, we had hot dogs (everyone absolutely loved them!). On the last day, we got to make our own fresh rolls with cheese, salami, and salad before our long bus trip home.
Dinners & Desserts: The dinners were amazing! The first night was chicken parma with wedges, followed by chocolate pudding and vanilla ice cream. The next night we had a super tasty pasta dish, and dessert was a yummy lemon tart with custard and cream.
