Early Entry Program 2026

Open to domestic and onshore international students. Requirements: Year 12 pass, meet VCE prerequisite study scores, no ATAR required. Students must also make a VTAC application. We know your ATAR doesn't tell the full story of what you’re capable of as a Uni student.  This is a different way to enter university that will not depend on your ATAR.

The Early Entry Program at Swinburne is a unique opportunity for current Year 12 students to receive a conditional offer based on a recommendation by the school and not based on an ATAR.  The program includes options for VCE VM and unscored VCE students, and these students can now receive an early offer from Swinburne for twelve different diploma/degree packaged pathways.

Details of the application process, as well as participating courses can be found below.

1. Application process - Students must organise a recommendation from a school representative – the school’s principal, the year level coordinator, a teacher, or the Career Practitioner, in order to proceed with an application.

2. Eligible courses - Courses that will be offered through this program can be found at Early Entry Program Eligible Courses, and students can only apply for one course.3. Recommendation form - Once an application is submitted, students will receive a confirmation email which will include the form they need to forward to their chosen school representative who will complete the form and return it to Swinburne, who will match the student’s application.

Applications are open, and close 27 November 2026.  Early Entry Program application outcomes will start being issued from 1 September 2026, and the offer will become unconditional once students successfully complete Year 12 and meet the course prerequisites – for example, a course may require an English study score of 25 or an EAL study score of 30.

Difference between a Bachelor of Laws and the Juris Doctor

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) - The Bachelor of Laws is typically a 4-year degree and is open to school leavers with a high enough ATAR (or equivalent) score. This undergraduate degree fulfills the academic side of qualifying for admission into legal practice. *An undergraduate is someone who has no tertiary qualification

Juris Doctor (JD) -The Juris Doctor is a postgraduate degree that typically takes 3 years. It is equivalent to enrolling in a LLB as a graduate*. The main advantage of a JD over a LLB is that programs are designed to suit graduate students.  Students should note though, that the JD normally costs far more than the LLB as, apart from generally higher tuition fees, postgraduate status means students may miss out on government financial concessions for undergraduate study. *A graduate is someone who has a degree
