Message from the Principal

Week 5&6 Term 2 2026
Dear CNPS Families,
This week CNPS participated in the four-year review of the school’s strategic plan. A huge congratulations to the entire community for a positive and forward focussed review. Thank you to members of school council and staff who met with the review panel. I particularly want to acknowledge the amazing students of CNPS who welcomed the review panel into their classrooms and spoke with our visitors about what they like about their school and how we can continue to improve for the future. The school now has a draft School Strategic Plan which will be finalised in the coming weeks.
Child safety and wellbeing at Carlton North Primary School - information for families and the school community
Carlton North Primary School is committed to providing an environment where students are safe and feel safe.
Our child safety framework Carlton North Primary School - Plans and Policies explains how we support and maintain child safety and wellbeing at Carlton North Primary School. It includes our:
Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
Child Safety Reporting and Responding Obligations Procedures, and
Child Safety Code of Conduct, which outlines acceptable and unacceptable behaviours for all staff and volunteers at our school.
Our students and families are important partners in providing a child safe environment. These regular newsletter reminders are one of the ways we ensure our school community is aware of:
- our commitment to child safety, and
- how to provide feedback or raise child safety concerns.
If you have any concerns about child safety at any time, please contact the Assistant Principal/s on 03 9347 4822. Any child safety complaints or concerns are treated seriously. For more information about our school’s complaints process, see our website Carlton North Primary School - Plans and Policies
We also welcome your ideas on ways we can improve our approach to child safety and wellbeing. If you have any suggestions or comments please contact the Assistant Principal/s on 03 9347 4822 or at carlton.north.ps@education.vic.gov.au
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week 2026 will be held from Wednesday 27 May to Wednesday 3 June 2026. The theme this year, ‘All In’, invites us to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. The start and end of National Reconciliation Week recognises 2 significant milestones: the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision.
As part of our journey walking with first nations people, CNPS students proudly explore the shared histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations people. Consistent with Child Safe Standard 1, fostering an environment that is culturally safe for First Nations students requires all schools to support the identity of students, be respectful of culture, and eliminate racism and abuse.
Classes across CNPS will actively engage in this important week of recognition.
Assessment and Reporting
CNPS will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual. The reports will be distributed via Compass on Tuesday 16 June 2026. The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but teacher comments will not be included due to industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union. Parents/carers–teacher interviews will run as normal commencing Wednesday 17–Thursday 25 June 2026. Please look out for more information about booking your interview via Compass in the coming weeks.
2026 Student Voice
We value student voice at CNPS as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality of our teaching and learning experiences. The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students’ perceptions and experiences of school. Students in years 4, 5 and 6 will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. CNPS students will be undertaking the survey in Week 7 Term 2. Parents/carers of students in Year 4-6 have been sent (via Compass) more detailed information about the survey.
School – Home Partnership
The hallmark of a strong school-home partnership is open and respectful dialogue, that embodies the school values. Please feel free to reach out to Maddi, Erin, Trish or I should you have any questions or queries.
Warm Regards
Matthew Ferguson
Principal
