From the

Leader of Year 12 Wellbeing

Mrs Rachel O'Connor

It is hard to believe that we are already almost half way through this term. As such there are some words of advice that have come from students that have not long been where our current Year 12 students now find themselves. The Australian Catholic University has a series of personal stories from current students who have reflected on their final year of schooling and shared their thoughts to help Year 12 students complete their studies to the best of their ability. Below are their words of advice:

Tips for Getting Through Year 12

First year Bachelor of Physiotherapy student Tom Brunckhorst was asked how he survived his final year of school and achieved his personal best.

“I was driven to get into a physio course. It was hard to find the balance between friends, sport and school, but I found ways to have fun with my friends in class (productively of course). Making the most of my time at school lightened the load mentally while we waded through the thick fog of classroom and study commitments. School is where I gained the knowledge, and home is where I’d review the day”.

According to Tom:

  • Create a schedule
  • Start early when preparing for exams and assessments. “That means when it comes time for an exam or assessment, you aren’t starting from scratch and can spend that time on final reviews and revisions.”
  • Dealing with stress! “My mentality was that if I was doing something to get there, I wasn’t doing nothing”.
  • Find a favourite place to study
  • Keep hydrated and fed
  • Have a healthy balance of study and fun
  • These tips may or may not work for you. “Find your own rhythm”

Kirsty Fealy (2nd Year Bachelor of Teaching / Bachelor of Arts student) was asked what advice she would give her Year 12 self:

“I would tell myself to have faith in my abilities.  I also wish I knew that everyone else was in the same position as me and feeling the same way.”

Remember you are not alone and the College community is here to bring you strength and support this year.

I would also like to thank Year 12 for making our first swimming carnival one to remember. The students were involved through swimming and came in their best themed clothes. On what was an extremely hot day, our students came through with maturity and a fantastic sense of fun. Well done Year 12! They have really set the standard high for future carnivals.

Congratulations to our House Captains with support of the rest of the student leadership team who designed the College’s new crest for their houses and lead the chants. It was because of you and your enthusiasm that the carnival was such a spirited success.
