From the
Leader of Year 11 Wellbeing
Mr Peter Robertson
We have hit Week 4 but it feels like Week 10! All Year 11 students should have now settled into the routine of senior education and be doing at least 2 hours of homework/revision each school night. Weekends are for catching up, organising the week ahead and doing any extra reading/research/planning for their various subjects.
Any subject changes should have now been finalised with Mrs Slater, so there is no more switching of courses. Students need to put in their best personal best effort with each subject on their timetable, regardless of whether they think they might not continue with it in Year 12 ( beginning in Term 4 ). Any student who fails to apply themselves with diligence and sustained effort will be issued with an 'N Determination Warning' letter (non completion of course). This could lead to dire consequences if the situation is not rectified.
In the next few weeks, students will start receiving Notifications for their first set of formal Assessment Tasks for the Preliminary (Year 11) year. It is very important that these are approached seriously and that every individual knows exactly what they have to do to successfully meet the outcomes.
The Year 11 Parent Information Night has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 12 March in the College Hall. It will run for only one hour. I encourage as many parents/guardians as possible to attend, in order to find out about Assessment requirements, as well as such areas as Vocational Education/Careers/Pathways and Student Welfare programs running here at St Aloysius.
As mentioned in the last Newsletter, Year 11 has had a mostly smooth start to 2024. However, there are a few areas where improvement is required. These include adhering to the mobile phone policy, respectful and mature behaviour on the playground/oval, attention to the grooming policy (eg. boys being clean shaven) and respect for school property. On the other hand, I am very pleased to report the positive response of many of our young men and women to opportunities for leadership such as LYL (Lasallian Youth Leaders), Catechists at Burraneer Bay Public School and the Peer Support program for Year 7.
As always, I am only ever a phone call or email away if you have any concerns or news that you think may impact on the education and wellbeing of your child.
