FACT: those who have goals are 10 times more likely to succeed than those without goals
As the first Careers Newsletter of the year, I would like to introduce myself to our new Year 7 and Year 11 students and their families and to remind Year 12 students of the services that I am able to provide. In my role as Instructional Leader Pathways and Partnerships, I am able to work with students to set goals for their HSC and beyond school. These Individual Transition Plans (ITP) are aligned with student’s strengths, passions and interests. I am also working closely with universities, tertiary institutions and employers to develop partnerships to assist our students as they seek pathways post school, cadetship opportunities and scholarships. At present our College is working in partnership with University of Wollongong, University of Technology and UNSW, and we are seeking opportunities with NSW Mining, SEDA Academy, and CSIRO. There are many exciting opportunities for our College in the near future! I will continue to post opportunities in this newsletter, as well as important dates for University entries, Early Admissions and Scholarships.
During our THRIVE program, our Year 11 and 12 students have been introduced to our new Careers Website - BEYOND. Students have activated their accounts and can use this resource to track post school options, including setting ATAR goals, connecting with universities and building a skills portfolio. Our Year 7 students will also have a lesson on this, along with a parent zoom meeting this term to demonstrate this resource.
At the start of this term, many of our Yr 12 students attended the UOW Discovery Day. This was a great event, where students could get a taste of what university life is like. Students attended lectures in their area of interest and come away from this day with many ideas for their future.
The University Admission Centre (UAC) is the body responsible for calculating student’s ATAR and allocating university preferences following the HSC. Many Year 12 students from the class of 2023 are heading to university and UAC have compiled a list of the most in-demand courses. Medicine and Business are top of the list! Read further here:
There will be many opportunities to discover more about universities and the Early Admission process throughout this year. It is important that all students continue to watch this space.
