Positive Behaviour for Learning
Modbury School P-6 has been asked by the Department for Education to participate in the pilot program to implement the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach.
PBL is a whole school framework that helps to create positive and engaging learning environments. The school community have developed three school-wide behaviour expectations which are the guiding principles for all of our interactions at school. These expectations are represented through signage, and posters throughout the school, and are referred to by all staff when speaking to the students. They are:
We are Safe
We are Kind
We are Resilient
One of the key features of the PBL system is that we frequently reward the positive behaviours as we see them. Modbury School P-6 has developed our own PBL Celebration system to encourage the recognition of positive behaviours demonstrated by our students.
When a staff member notices a student who is being Safe, Kind, or Resilient they are given a token, which they can then take to the office area and use to cast a vote on a whole school celebration. The students are currently voting between a crazy sock day and an extra 10 minutes of playtime. The winning celebration will be announced at the next assembly.
