Yearbook help wanted!

We are looking for some new members of our yearbook team! Emilly Rose (teaching staff member on family leave) has been overseeing the program and has excellent systems in place to manage the publication, however is unable to complete the year book in 2024.  If you would be interested in being part of this team please contact me. To ensure the continued success of the year book, we require parent assistance!

Swimming

Congratulations to the students who represented Solway at the Division Swimming Championship on Friday. We had 17 students make it to this stage, which is fantastic! Congratulations to the following students who have progressed to the Regional event on Friday 22 March: Henry S – butterfly, Tom J – backstroke and Tom J, Lachie M, Charlie G and Nicholas L –  freestyle relay. A big thank you to Kip once again for all his time and support with additional training sessions for the students, and to all the parents for supporting the students.

Clean Up Australia Day

A huge thank you to the 2024 Green Team members, Ms Brooke Danaher and Ms Rebecca Smith, who will take part in our annual Clean Up Australia Day tomorrow at Gardiners Creek.  The rest of the school will also take part in Clean Up Australia Day at Solway on Wednesday afternoon!

NAPLAN

Next week we will support our Year 3 and 5 students as they take part the 2024 NAPLAN Assessments, beginning Wednesday 13 March. This year NAPLAN is again online. We have a ten day window to complete the assessments, however with the Year 5/6 camp we will aim to get the tests completed as early as possible. This gives students time to reschedule any assessment due to illness in the days after camp.  Please avoid making any appointments in their times for Year 3 and 5 students.

Year 5/6 Camp

We wish all of the Year 5/6 students, teachers and parent helpers a wonderful time on camp beginning Monday 18 March!   We hope they have a fantastic time and that the weather is kind to them.

Harmony Day

Harmony Week begins on Monday 18 March, however with the year 5/6 Camp that week, Solway will celebrate on Wednesday 27 March.   Students can come dressed in clothes for any cultural background or wear a touch of orange – the colour for Harmony Day.   We look forward to celebrating the diversity of all in our community.

School Photo Day

Class photos and student individual photos will be taken on Tuesday, 26 March. We expect to see all students in full school uniform with black or white socks and school coloured hair ties.  The day's running schedule is quite tight, so please avoid appointments for students on this day.  It would be a shame for a student to miss their class photo. Year 6 students are asked to bring along their Year 6 tops and wear their black polos (if they have one) for their photo.

All students have an individual photo taken for our school records. The Photographers will take leadership group photos on the day, time permitting.

Reminders

  • Students should not be at school unsupervised until 8:40am, unless they are participating in a school run activity.  We have noted many children arriving early and wish to remind you that supervision does not begin until 8:40am.  If you need to drop your child off prior to this please enrol them in the TeamKids before school program.  Thanks for your support with this.
  • It is currently hat wearing time, until the end of April, and then any day where the UV is 3 or higher.  All students must have a broad brim/school approved hat to ensure they are ‘sunsmart’.
  • Our clubs for this term are going well!  The current timetable is as follows: Science club and Green Team on  Mondays, Collectors club and Digital Technologies on Tuesdays, SRC on Wednesdays, Art Club on Thursdays and Cultural Club on Fridays.  The Library is also open the second half of every lunchtime.  Running club is before school on Wednesday morning, unless otherwise communicated through Compass.
