Number & Algebra   I   Measurement & Geometry   I   Statistics & Probability

In Mathematics, students learn through a combination of explicit teaching focuses and open-ended problem-solving tasks.  Every topic is taught at the students' points of need to give them the flexibility to extend and support their learning, as needed.  Connections between the three domains (Number and Algebra; Measurement and Geometry; Statistics and Probability) are emphasised, to help students consolidate their understandings. We focus on the four capabilities of understanding, fluency, reasoning and problem-solving in each topic. We are looking at students building connections and exploring topics in geat depth.

Number & Algebra

Areas covered: number properties, place value and powers of 10, place value and decimals, rounding, addition and subtraction, multiplying and dividing by powers of 10, multiplication facts, place value, and the distributive law, multiples (including lowest common multiple), division, divisibility laws, factors (including highest common factor), and index numbers.

Measurement & Geometry

Areas covered: units of measurement, selecting appropriate units of measurement, shape, area, perimeter, volume/capacity and converting units of measurement.

Statistics & Probability
