Forest School

As Autumn takes hold, we are noticing the subtle changes that come with the cooler weather. From a Wurrundjeri perspective, we have entered the season called ‘Luk’, eel season. We are experiencing cooler mornings, the flowering of different gum and bushes, and apparently, if this was our custom, the eels are fat and ready to harvest.

The children continue to thrive in the bushland of Middle Gully. The Foundation students, after a very interrupted few weeks, are discovering their passions during their Forest School sessions. Mud play was a particular highlight for them this week where they experimented with the way water flows to create rivers and lakes. The children worked together to install pipes for the water to flow through and created water catchments to store the water.

Other skill development occurred during various activities, including: chicken care; rope swing building; tunnel and bridge building in the sandpit; garden maintenance; and river carving.

Forest School is lots of fun and if you are free to join us to support a session or two please get in touch: Sarah.Kline@education.vic.gov.au.

Cheers,

Sarah.
