In Art we have been working on creating landscapes and exploring the elements of landscapes that give the artwork a sense of depth. Classes across the school have used a horizon line, perspective and shadowing in their work to show a clear background, middle ground and foreground.
Foundation created a 'Mario Kart' inspired landscape using black crayon and watercolours. They learnt about a variety of lines such as zig-zag, spiral and curved to add more detail to their work.
Year One made a Fairy/Goblin home artwork where they used black markers and watercolours to design a mushroom shaped home fit for a fairy or goblin creature. They learnt about contrasting colours and how to add detail to their home with windows and doors.
Year Two worked on a Mythical Creature Landscape, which was made in two parts. Part one was their colourful background including a focal point and a foreground containing objects differing in size depending on depth of perspective. Part two was drawing a mythical creature of their choice using black pastel to contrast the background.
Year Three designed an Ice Castle/Fantasy Landscape with a number of layers and used different materials. The students used chalk pastel to draw their focal point and background, adding 'snow' using a white oil pastel. They cut paper trees in differing size to show depth and used white paint to add texture, and finally added decorations for that final 'wow' factor.
The Year Four students created a Stained Glass Window Landscape where they drew a detailed nature focussed scene, tracing their lines with PVA glue. After the glue dried, they use chalk and oil pastels to colour in their artwork.
The Year Five designed a Fantasy Land where they displayed their growing understanding of space and perspective. Practising their skills using markers, pencils, crayons and paints.
Year Six worked on Magical Portal Landscapes completed in two parts. The foreground containing the portal looking through to an opposing world in the background. They also discovered a number of paper crafting techniques.
Thank you to the students who have participated in the Ellen Jose Art Competition. This is our final week to work on the project at school, however students are encouraged to continue to work on their submissions from home, prior to applications closing on the 19th April.
We have also been fortunate to have been asked to participate in the Beaumaris Secondary College Art Show later in the year, where 40 of our Year 4 to 6 students works will be selected to displayed at the college. Date: June 27th 5.30-7pm.
Happy Easter holidays and keep crafting with some of these ideas if you like...
