5/6 St John’s Ambulance Incursion

Students in Years 5 and 6 have transformed into junior lifesavers! On Thursday, February 15th, they participated in a thrilling First Aid incursion with St John's Ambulance, equipping themselves with the knowledge and skills to act decisively in emergencies.

Pictures from class 5A show students absorbing essential first aid steps like seasoned professionals. They grasped the First Aid Action Plan, learning to assess situations calmly, call for help efficiently, and administer basic interventions with confidence.

Yr 7 Discovery Day

The Year 7 Discovery Day was held on the 16th of February, facilitated by FitnessWorx. The event aimed to foster positive relationship building through a series of engaging activities. Students participated in a range of team-building exercises that required cooperation and communication. From exhilarating minute-to-win-it challenges to immersive circus workshops featuring hula hooping, juggling, and hand manipulation, students were encouraged to explore their capabilities and step out of their comfort zones. The boot camp challenge allowed students to refine their teamwork skills, motivating and assisting one another in overcoming obstacles. Healthy competition among students fostered a sense of unity and achievement. Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with students expressing satisfaction with the day. The staff from FitnessWorx commended the maturity and positive attitude exhibited by the Year 7 cohort at Mount Ridley College.

Year 10 Hospitality

Our amazing Year 10 Hospitality class recently embarked on a delicious journey, crafting their own exquisite charcuterie boards as part of their first unit on kitchen safety. This wasn't just about creating a gourmet snack; it was a showcase of their newfound skills and commitment to safe food handling.

The final result? A visual and gustatory feast! Each charcuterie board showcased their creativity and individuality, boasting an array of delectable meats, cheeses, vegetables, and dips, beautifully arranged to entice the eye and tantalize the palate.

Year 11 Food Studies

Year 11 Food Studies has embarked on a delicious journey through time! Their first culinary adventure of the year wasn't just about mastering recipes; it was a historical exploration of ancient grains and the evolution of food systems around the world.

The students meticulously crafted an ancient grains salad, a vibrant blend of textures and flavors that transcended time. Each grain held a story, each combination a testament to the enduring legacy of these culinary staples. Alongside, they seasoned and grilled succulent beef kebabs, creating a perfect fusion of ancient and modern techniques.

The final result? A feast for the senses and a mind-opening experience. This wasn't just about cooking; it was about understanding the cultural significance of food, appreciating the evolution of cuisines, and connecting with the past through the power of flavors.

2024  SCHOLARSHIP MORNING TEA

Approximately 70 members of our community attended the Mount Ridley Scholarship morning tea at Highgate Arena on Wednesday 6th March.   This annual event is a highlight of our College calendar where we recognise and celebrate the successes and achievements of students across the College.  Successful students are presented with their certificates of recognition in front of their carers and many of our sponsors.  The financial support attached to these scholarships goes partway to supporting students and their respective learning programs.  Congratulations to the successful students, their carers, and thank you to all our sponsors who provide the financial support yearly.

2024 STUDENT LEADER BADGE CEREMONY

The P-12 Student Leadership Badge Ceremony was held on March the 7th, 2024.  Student leaders were recognised for their achievements with both a badge and a certificate. Student Leaders then enjoyed a social gathering where they mingled across year levels with their families and staff.

ABCN FOCUS Leadership Program

ABCN is one of our long-standing Business and Education partners who have been providing numerous Mount Ridley College students opportunities to experience mentorship with personnel from key multinational organizations.  Students participate in workshops and collaborate with business leaders and personnel to learn about the world of work and the pathways available.

During February, 19 female students from years 10 and 11 completed the Focus program which included online and face-to-face workshops with female executives for Ernst & Young. The three fully facilitated sessions included an introduction to leadership styles, realising strengths and creating a leadership picture.  The initiative addressed the underrepresentation of women in senior roles in Australia and has been designed to support young women to develop their leadership skills, aspire to senior roles in business and the community, and foster a sense of self-belief that will encourage them to aim high. The EY mentors shared their own career journeys and challenges and judging from our students’ responses they were left with a great impression and inspiration.

Our participating students received a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the program, but, more importantly, walked away more confident and positive about their own future aspirations.

Many other valuable programs will be offered to students via MS TEAMS this year and I encourage students to avail themselves of these valuable opportunities.

EARLY YEARS – Visual Art News

It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm from students, staff and families towards Early Years Visual Art this term. Students have produced some amazing artwork, bringing colour to the walls of our learning areas. Highlights would definitely have to be the grade prep students who have shown their teachers how much they know about shape and colour.

Prep students showed off their imaginations and creativity by making googly eyed shape monsters for their first all important Visual Art learning tasks. Prep students have also been learning all about the primary and secondary colours and their place on the colour wheel.

Grades 2 students have been learning all about the elements of art this term. Grade 2 students worked very hard to complete their bird and tree projects. Students drew original trees with surrounding gardens showing line, texture and value. They also demonstrated all they have learned about colour by colouring some birds in complementary colours to add to their trees. All students did a wonderful job completing this multistep project

Thank you to everyone who has put their best and most colourful effort into Visual Art so far this year. Keep up the fantastic work!
