Stephen's News

Dear Families,

Today we attended Mass with Fr Denis and OLMC parishioners for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. With such a large school community, our Y5 students needed to bring chairs across so that we din’t take up all the seats in the Church! This was our third Mass for the term, and the students have, on the whole, been very reverent and prayerful. A big shout out to our liturgical choir who enlivened the Masses by leading us in song throughout the different services.

On Monday our Year 5 students headed off to Phillip Island for a two-night Camp. The weather was mostly kind, though our rain jackets did get a bit of use on Tuesday afternoon! It was great seeing the students in a different environment, demonstrating independence, resilience and collegiality. The Giant Swing and Pinnacle climb were definite highlights, though they don’t beat this amazing sunrise from Tuesday morning.

A huge thanks to the staff who attended - it is a huge responsibility being on duty with 85 children who are away from home in an unfamiliar environment. It is for this reason that some of the newly built Catholic schools in Melbourne’s north have chosen not to undertake overnight Camps, instead focusing on longer “day experiences”. We will continue to review our Camp program in consultation with families, as well as the relevant departments at Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools.
