A message from Cheryl

The last two weeks at Art/Activity Club we have been discussing Thankfulness

Last week we wrote some thank you letters to someone we appreciate for something they may have done, or just for being them!

I was very blessed to receive some, and I have attached one to show you as an example.

The students seemed to enjoy the activity, and it reminded us how important it is to think about appreciating others, as well as telling them (in whatever way you choose)

Willow Cafe

The Willow cafe will be holding a book week special on Friday 29th August. Head on over to the window to purchase a coffee and cake.

Parents and Friends

The Parents and Friends would like to welcome any new members to join our ranks! We meet Wednesday evenings at 7pm twice a term. Our next meeting is at the Uraidla Pub on 10th September at 7pm.  Come along and have fun while supporting your kids! 🙂

Here is some general information about Parents and Friends:

We are a group of parents and friends of the school, who share the vision of an inclusive and welcoming school community. We focus on activities that raise funds for the school for equipment and experiences and provide opportunities to bring everyone together and feel part of our community. Best of all we have a lot of fun and laughs while doing it.

We meet twice a term, and everyone volunteers to run or support different activities throughout the year. You can join the committee, or we welcome volunteers for events and activities.

P&F activities you can volunteer to help out with include:

  • Willow Café ( run after assemblies, hot drinks and snacks)
  • Sausage sizzles for Acquaintance night/ end of year concert
  • Second hand uniform sales
  • School Disco
  • Large events like the Quiz Night

To join, come along to a meeting (dates in the term planner) or email uraidlapandf@gmail.com to express your interest in helping out with events.

Meet a Parent

I’m Amy Freer, mum to Alfie (Emma’s Year 2 class) and Oscar (Katie’s Reception class), plus Aggie (3, at home). I work as a Nurse Educator with Central Adelaide’s Hospital Avoidance Services.

We moved to Ashton last year and have been loving the extra space, the warm community, the beautiful scenery, and the fresh air.

I joined Parents & Friends to help out, contribute to school life, and get to know more of our wonderful Hills families.

Book Week

We are excited to announce that our Book Week will be celebrated the week of 25th – 29th August, with the theme “Book an Adventure”.

This year, we are encouraging students to dive into stories that take them on exciting adventures - whether it‛s exploring magical lands, sailing the high seas, uncovering mysteries, or journeying through time!

As part of the celebration, we will be holding a Book Character Parade on the Friday of that week, at 9am with Book Week Activities to follow. Parent/Grandparent involvement will add to the enjoyment, if you are available. As part of the parade, we invite all students to dress up as a character from a book that represents an adventure. This could be from a favourite story, fairy tale, or a journey across time, space, or imagination! Costumes can be simple or elaborate – whatever your child is comfortable wearing. We encourage creativity and a strong connection to a book or story your child enjoys. Let‛s make Book Week an exciting journey into the world of storytelling!

On Wednesday 13th of August students will all attend a fantastic immersive book week themed incursion in the school gym, notes will be sent home shortly for this experience.

Please see or speak to the teacher or come and see Corinne in the library with any questions. Thank you for your support in making reading fun and meaningful for our student

Lost Property

We have had a child's pandora bracelet handed into the lost property late last term. Could this be your child's? If you believe it may belong to your child, please contact the front office. Thanks

Uraidla Primary Facebook Group

If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a FaceBook group for UPS families and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.

It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council and admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.

Chess

 Did you know that each Thursday during the second lunch playtime there is a Chess Club? Chess is a great game and brings many benefits to children, including

* critical thinking

* concentration

* challenge

* enjoyment

* decision making skills

New players are welcome each week, meeting in Stephen’s class♟️

Enrolment in Reception

If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school.  Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.

Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.

If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)

Enrolments for mid entry 2025 should already be finalised. With enrolments for start of 2026 due by the end of term 2. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!

If you are still unsure or interested in booking a school tour please contact the office on 8390 3209 and book into one of the below time slots.
