Jericho Community
Dear Families,
Welcome Back!
We hope everyone was able to catch up on some rest over the holiday break.
To help our students settle into the routines of the school and classroom expectations please help them to be here on time as the teachers are a little excited about all the great learning they will be doing this term.
Please keep reading all the information for the many upcoming events.
Religious Education Focus
We are now exploring the title of "Fuel for the Journey' with emphasis on the word 'Fuel' and 'Journey.' This will be a common theme this term.
English Focus

This term, students have started reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. The story follows Roz, a robot who finds herself stranded on a wild island. As she learns to survive and connect with the animals, students are exploring important themes like belonging, resilience, and caring for the environment.
We are also learning about how we can look after our world, just like Roz learns to do. Later this term, students will watch the movie version of The Wild Robot and compare it to the book. This will lead to great discussions about how stories can be told in different ways.
It’s a wonderful journey of reading, thinking, and caring for our planet.
Mathematics Focus
This week we have begun to learn about different angles such as acute, obtuse, reflex and right angles. We wonder if students could point out some of the angles to you around the home?
Integrated Studies
We have now started our Integrated Unit that is also linked to our RE topic of "Fuel for the Journey." Students will be looking at 'What all Living things need' and how we can ethically look after animals in our society. We also have planned a number of incursions and an excursion for students to learn and have hands on experience around the ethical care of animals.
Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR
This week we began to look at finding similarities and differences between our class members. This will transfer into their understanding of 'Gender norms and stereotypes' where they will explore individuality, gender stereotypes through stories and the rights and responsibilities that we have.
Auslan Focus
We have begun Unit 5 which is about signing words such as want, like and don't want and short questions such as, 'Do you want to play cricket with me?'.

Please ensure that your child has a bottle of water each day. They are able to refill it when needed.
As the weather is getting colder, bringing a jacket to school to help us keep warm when we are outside is recommended. Please put names on all clothing items so they can be returned if they become lost.
